Hello, I am a mama to a 8 month old. She was breastfed until 5 months, and I am just curious how long it took to get your period back after quitting breastfeeding? im going on 4 months without it after stopping bf. I am on the mirena IUC so I dont know if that makes a difference. Thanks

What can I do next?

Mirena will do it! I was on mirena after my last two and I would spot a little a few times a year and that was it. You are one of the lucky ones who will probably be like me - period free for the most part. Wouldn't worry about it at all if I were you.

Take a pregnancy test. If it says you are not pregnant go see a OBGYN--just to be safe. You should be having your period by now. Good luck.

I have the Mirena IUC and I do not have any periods. It could be that your IUC is working and you will not have any periods. Which is fabulous!

My daughter has the Mirena. Her doctor told her she would have lighter periods or none at all. She's waiting for the none at all. :):)

Hi C.!
Speaking from experience, I breastfed both my boys for 12-1/2 months. I also had the Mirena IUC placed at my 6-week checkup and I had it for over two years until we decided to TTC again. I had really no period the entire time I had the Mirena IUC. All I experienced was minimal spotting.

It's the Mirena. I had one placed in August when my little one was 2 months and spotted off and on until about February and have had nothing since and she just stopped nursing this last week and still nothing! the doc said it is totally normal and fine for your body to not have a period! Good Luck!

Hello! I stopped pumping when my son was 3 months old and it took about 3 months to get my cycle back. Also, it has changed a bit from what it was pre-pregnancy. My cycle now goes about 31 days, instead of the perfect 28 days that it was before. It's also a little longer and heavier... all things you probably did NOT want to hear, I know. However, my Dr has told me that considering what our bodies go through w/ pregnancy and childbirth, it's no wonder that it won't be the same it was before. She also told me that over time it might change some more and all we can do is roll w/ the punches, haha! I am not on birth control, so I can't comment on if your IUC is affecting the cycle in any way. I hope my comments were helpful. Good Luck!

Hello C.,
My name is T.. I have twin 9month old girls right now. I started taking birth control as soon as possible after the pregnancy. I had my first period after the delivery which, of course was very heavy. It was when the girls were about 4 months old. But after that I didn't have it again until the girls were 8 months old. They say that if birth control has a high amount of the hormone progesterone in it, it will either delay or stop your periods while your taking them.

I am using the Mirena IUD too. I am still nursing and just have occasional spotting. But when I didn't have the IUD after my other pregnancies it usually took me several months to get my period back after I had stopped nursing. My doctor told me I may not get my period back with the IUD.

If you have the Mirena IUD, you most likely wont have a period! Thats good news! I have the Mirena (have had it twice). I dont have a period either. And if you are worried about it affecting your cycle, it didnt affect mine at all. I got it out to try for a second child. My first period started at the same time it always had before and we concieved on the first try. So, consider it a blessing! :) My doctor says that you dont have to have (parden my frankness) the monthly "flow" in order to be completely normal. Your cycle will still run...you just wont have that nasty side effect.

I am also on the Marina IUD. I dont get periods at all. I had the first IUD for the five years and then got the next one put in. I find that I only have "spotting" and randomly. Never do I have a normal period. Hope this helps. I think some women may still get light periods, but for me that has never been the case.
