My baby is 3 months old and I have been breastfeeding. My postpardum bleeding stopped 6 weeks after I had him and since then I have been spotting every two weeks. Sometimes it's red like it might be a period and other times it's brown. sometimes I don't need a liner cause it's so light and sometimes a thin liner works. It starts and stops for either 1 day or up to 3. I'm expierencing it agin for the 4th time now. Is this normal?

What can I do next?

I breast fed both my children, and my youngest for much longer than my oldest. Mother nature presented me with her priceless gift after about the 4th month after my oldest, but not until the 13th month after my youngest was born. Everyone's body is different (and can be different after each pregnancy), so if it persists, you should just check with your dr. to be on the safe side...especially if you experience any issues to accompany what you've expressed here. Flu like symptoms could be a sign of infection somewhere (of course, with flu season upon us it might make it harder to discern). Ehhh, better safe than sorry with a little baby to take care of.

I breast fed all 3 of my children until they were about 9 months old and never had a period during that time...except for that first couple of weeks right after delivery. I know that when you breast feed you can still ovulate and this might be what is happening to you, so your body goes through the "cycle". I would call my gyno and ask, but it sounds like it might be pretty normal to me.

The exact same has been happening to me too. My daughter is now 6 months old. When she was about 5 months old I finally went to the doctor. She did a series of cultures and I also had a sonogram. She gave me several explanation of what it may be (i.e. infection, fibroids, left over membranes). Everything came back normal and she did not have a specific explanation for why it was happening, but said not to worry. She did say that I have estrogen in my body and may be starting to ovulate despite the fact that I am almost exclusively breast feeding, so therefore i could get pregnant if i had unprotected sex. I would definetly go to the doctor to rule out any of the issues I mentioned above.

good luck,

W.

I am currently still breastfeeding our 10 1/2 month old, and I breastfed our oldest. My period reared its ugly face again around the time that my babies were 3 months. My guess is that what you are experiencing is normal, but it wouldn't hurt to call your doctor and just ask.
