Sudafed is okay to take ;)
Everytime I talk to a pharmacist about what I can take while pregnant or breastfeeding, they always tell me to talk to a doctor! UGH!
But sudafed was okay to take while pregnant, I'm assuming it's the same.
I have got a pretty bad cold and i want to take some medicine but i'm breastfeeding. I was wondering if anyone knew any OTC medicine that is ok to talk. I know i should talk to the doctor but it military and by the time i could get an appointmenr i'd probably be over it. Or if anyone know how to use the TRICARE library or talk to a nurse over the phone that would be helpful as well.

Any local pharmacist will be able to answer this for you. Just go to walgreens/CVS/rite aid....wherever you normally purchase your cold medicines, and they will steer you clear of anything you can't take right now. Hope this helps!
Hey D.,
You'll find that doctors like to be a little vague about what's okay to take while breastfeeding - that whole liability thing. But I fished out my pocket drug guide for ya.
Anything that works just on a small area of the body - saline nose drops, sinex nasal spray, cough drops, that chloraseptic spray that you spray in your throat to help with coughing - all of those are okay. (I lived on Sucrets) Also, my doc said that anything I was allowed to take while pregnant would be okay while breastfeeding. My personal experience is that if you can possibly avoid taking decongestants, try to. Zyrtec, Tavist, Benadryl, aka Diphenhydramine are all listed as no-no's in my drug book. Sudafed worked for me, but my kids were used to zero caffeine from me while I nursed and it made them a little restless.
Good luck, and hang in there!!

call a hospital and talk to a nurse in the labor and delivery they will be ably to tell you i cant remember how long before you can breastfeed i think it is two hrs after you take the med but call i might be wrong and OCT meds don't get any thing that will make you sleepy
