The more you use the more you make. As you pump in between feedings some you will start to get full more often.
Good morning ladies.
I have another question about breastfeeding. Unfortunatly I have to go back to work in 4 weeks. My question is, once I feed my baby, how long in between does it take for my milk to replenish so I can start pumping & freezing for daycare to use it? I know I need to start pumping soon, but I dont want my lil guy to get short changed because im pumping between feedimgs.
Thank you

Hi J.,
The best thing to do is to start pumping at the first feeding in the morning, pump from one breast, nurse baby on the other. Your milk supply is bigger in the morning after sleep. Start out to pump only once a day, if your baby seems fine, increase it to two times a day. Your milk supply will increase with increased demand.
Good luck

I would start pumping after each time he nurses to see what you get. By doing this it should increase your supply a bit and you should start freezing it now. He shouldn't get short changed he will take what he needs and your body will make more to adjust to the needs. Make sure you drink lots of water to help too. Good luck.
If you start pumping after you feed your baby, you will start making more milk which means you can pump more and it won't affect your supply. It might take a few days but your supply will increase with the feedings and the pumping. But then on a downside, you might start making too much milk and will be extremely uncomfortable at work too.
First, you don't need to worry about short changing your little one, you always have milk, even if you don't feel "full." As for pumping, I was told the best time would be in the morning after the morning feed, as you will be fuller from the night. Make sure you choose a time when you will not be rushed, though.
Pump one side while baby is nursing on the other. You do not have to worry about shorting your newborn, the breast never fully empties and the first 4 months are the easiest in which to pump because you make an overabundance.
I would start your stockpiling in the freezer now.
I agree with Kelly W.
Also, drink fenugreek tea. I love Earth Mama, Angel Baby's Milkmaid tea. http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/breastfeeding-support/m.... I really saw an increase in my milk supply when I began pumping to donate to a milk bank.
Good luck!
one thing my SIL did was to continue to wake up a 2:00 a.m. after baby was sleeping through the night so as not to take away milk baby needed in the day time.
Your body will adjust and produce what you need. You can also pump one side and feed the other (it takes juggling, but it works) or pump between feedings/during naps/at night. Once you are at work, you should pump at least 3 x a day when you aren't otherwise feeding your child. I used to pump at work and nurse at night/weekends. Once you start using the milk, don't freeze unless it won't be used in a couple of days.
Kellymom.com has good info and there's also a book called Nursing Mother, Working Mother that I found useful.
