Hi Mamas!

My sister is currently expecting her second child and wants to breast feed. She is looking for a breast pump and would like to invest in a good one. Any suggestions on what the best ones are or that worked best for you. Thanks so much, J.

Medela pump-in-style is the best brand and model out there bar none. I pumped with both of my kids, at work as well. That's the one she wants. Hope this helps. -JM

The Medela Pump in Style is great! Also, I had to pump quite a bit since I went back to work after only 6 weeks and I was a milk factory! It didn't impeed my milk production at all.

I am a working mom and use the medela original and have no problems with it.

Before she purchases one, she should check with her insurance company. It is my understanding that certain companies will cover the purchase of one if it is perscribed by a Dr. (which should not be an issue.) If she qualifies, she could get a higher-end pump at no cost to her!

I also love the medela pump in style though after 8 months I dread pumping. I would rather breast feed anyday when not working! Have your sister check with your hospital for discounts on the breat pumps. She also might want to purchase a pump after she knows that breast feeding is working well. If she is not going to be working she may not need a high dollar pump- I am working part-time and it is worth every penny. I am so glad that I can still come home and breast feed with my son.

Hope this helps!

I'm a breatfeeding mom of three. I used the Avent manual pump then bought an Ameda pump to increase my milk supply (when I was working.) I researched the medela and found it to be more expensive but not any better than the Ameda.

If she will stay at home then the Avent should be fine for her. Otherwise, she should get the Ameda pump or Medela.

J.,

I have been using the Medela Pump N Style for a year now, this has been the best investment in nursing my baby. I have not had any problems at all with it. It is the closest you can get to a hospital grade pump and was recommended to me by my lactation consultant. I highly recommend it to your sister!!!

Medele Pump N Style is the way to go. It's quiet and fairly efficient! You can carry it everywhere, it fits in the stroller, has batteries to use for when traveling...it definitely beats hand pumps!

Go with Medela Pump N Style. Either the original, or advanced - they are both great! Of course like somebody mentioned here on the board- the best pump is your own baby - but sometimes you would like to leave the baby with somebody and have time for yourself and hubby on the town, and the baby has to be fed! So - pump in advance with the pump and everybody will be happy (easy, quiet, easy to clean, you can carry it anywhere). I used Medela Pump in Style Advanced and was extremly happy with it (beats manual pumping by faaaar).
Hope it helps

After three children, I can highly recommend Medela's pump in style. You can find these on ebay at a lower price.

Also, the Avent hand pump is a great one too if she does need an electric....

Hello Jamie.
I come from a long line of breastfeeders. And the best breast pump ever is her baby. There are pumps which caters to comfort, speed, etc. One thing your sister must know is that mechanically pumping your breast decreases the milk production tremendously. It increases your chances for your milk to dry faster. My best friend is an OB/GYN. She warn me before I purchased a pump. Good luck and congradulations on the new addition.
