Hi Ladies! I have insurance through United Health Care and come Jan 1, I will become eligable for a free breast pump. I'm currently renting the Medela Symphony from the hospital and realize Madela is the best there is! Here are the two pumps I can get for free through my insurance: 1.) Melodi Advanced Plus 2.) Hygeia. Has anyone used either of these, please give me your feedback! Thx and Merrcy Christmas!

What can I do next?

Well, I don't know if you itemize when you do your taxes but breast pumps and pumping supplies (parts for the pump and breast pads, etc) are all tax-deductible as well. No need to wait until January 1st or to deal with an insurance company dictating which pump you can get.

I loved my Madela Pump in Style and used it for two babies - my first I exclusively pumped for a year, while working! I would tend to buy a Madela as well. If that is not feasible and you must chose one of these then contact a local lactation consultant or your local LLL chapter and see if they have any advice for you.

Cheers! C.

I would go with Medela. I had the medela pump in style advanced and I broke the connector to the hose off the face. I called the company sobbing because no way could I afford a new pump! They sent me a new face plate, free, and overnighted it to me since I was a working mom I needed it soon! Awesome customer service. I didn't have a receipt or anything!

I had the Medela.. Check with your lactation consultant on the other two. But everything I have ever seen in regards to other pumps from Medela is that they are not nearly as good.

Think about this.. they are about $250 if you divide that by 12 that is $21 a month. You will pay way more than that for forumla if you do not get a good pump.

Good luck.

Haven't used either of those, I used the Medela Pump In Style (the same one for both my kids) and it held up well and worked great. I guess the things to look for in those two would be: if they have adjustable suction control so it's comfortable for you, how efficient it is (a model that pumps 40-60 times/min and does both breasts at once will cut your pumping time in HALF), and how compact, or easy it is to carry and use. Just remember that if you are pumping at work, you probably will have 15 min to squeeze in a session...and if you are pumping at home, that little one does not always want to wait 30 minutes for mommy to finish. Time is of the essense and you will spend ALOT of time at the pump, so just make sure you pick a good one up front (it's sooo worth the extra $)! Good luck!

I haven't heard of these two, sorry. But, I did use the Medela from the hospital, but I didn't have to pay for it because WIC rented it for me. So, if you are getting WIC, see about keeping it through them. Good luck!
