My friend just had it done a few months ago. She took 3 days off work and ended up calling in to take a few extra days off. She said the recovery was painful. But, now she looks great and she doesn't regret.
For years now I have felt uncomfortable with myself and have always wanted a breast enhancement. After nursing 2 children I am left with even less than I had before and feel it is time I have done something for myself. My question is with recvery, I have been told by many that it isn't so bad and totally worth it, however, when I research thing I find opposite stories. So, if any of you out there have went through with the proceedure I would like to get some feed back if possible. I have young children and also worry about recovery with them around (although I will have help) Please share your stories, process, recovery, if you've had to get them redone, was it worth it, would you do it all over again, how much pain you were in etc.
Thanks,

I believe people should do whatever makes them feel better. However, I am concerned with how many women want their boobs operated on.
"If I just had bigger boobs, I'd feel more confident."
I come from a family of large breasted women and I've never once considered having foreign bodies put into me so I'd be like everyone else.
I'll never get a job at Hooters, but after 2 kids and being 47 I can still wear cute tops and halters without a bra and I don't think I'd want to deal with bigger boobs.
My mom and sister have a terrible time finding things to fit them and what they have is all natural.
For years you've felt uncomfortable with yourself.
If you really want and can afford a breast enhancement, go for it. I see nothing wrong with it. Women do it all the time.
BUT, ask yourself why you are really doing it beforehand.
It's none of my business or anyone else's for that matter.
How will a breast surgery enhance your life?
And what if it doesn't?
I wish you the best and hope you get some great responses.
My best friend did this about 1.5 years ago. She did it AFTER she was done having children. Me being her best friend, I was there to hear her every concern, pain, moan and grown etc. I SWEAR she could have posted this question a year and a half ago. Here is her breif story
She lined up so that she had someone with her for 1 week to help with the kids. (at that time they were 2 and 1 year olds). She got her mother in law to come and stay. The first 3 days were really painful for her (but she is also not the more energetic person either...she likes to look for reasons to lay around and watch TV) She claimed that the pain would be less and less each day. By the end of that week, she still felt soar but was manageable pain. She said the worst part of the proceedure was having to massage the implants. When they put them in, she THOUGHT she would come out with these perfect cantelopes on her chest. Instead she got worried because they looked more like cantelopes on her colar bone. She had to do massages to "push them down so they have more of the natural look"
She is now a COMPLETLEY different person. More confident and has a wonderful outlook and upbeat personality (which was more hidden before her surgery) Unfortunatley her hubby is not really fond of all the attentions she has been getting from other people and that has put a HUGE strain on their marriage....so much they are now in Marriage counselling and its not looking good. The D word is mentioned now more than ever. But she said that she would do it over and over again. She said its kind of like labor, the pain sucks really bad but the end result is wonderful
Good luck...OH And MAKE SURE YOU RESEARCH YOUR DOCTOR...she did research for about 2 years and interviewd over 20 possible surgeons.Dont go with some cheapy one just to save $1000.00 bux...Most of the time you get what you pay for.
After I was finished nursing my second son I had a breast reduction. I know this is a little different, but by all accounts it is a more painful recovery than implants with a lot more incision space, so I can comment on that. It was not too bad, and the pain was manageable. I could not pick up my kids for 2 weeks so help is a must, but other than that recovery was not difficult. Also, thoroughly check our your surgeon and be sure he is board certified, many are not. When having my breast done I made sure to find out how many and how often he had done my particular surgery, and checked to be sure he did not have any complaints with the medical board.
If you have been thinking about it I would definitely do it!I got my breast done in August of 2007 and then found out I was pregnant the next month. The recovery and surgery were a breeze, granted I had no children at the time. I am a teacher though, got them done over a long weekend on a Friday and was back to work that Tuesday. The day of the surgery and the following day, you are pretty out of it, but after that you should be ready to be around people as long as your not lifting. It also depends on where you get your incision, I had mine under the breast. That being said I had my second son a few weeks ago and depending on how my breasts look after nursing, I would definitely consider getting them re-done. My cousin who has two daughters under the age of five, just got her breasts done over Christmas, by the same doctor and was up and back to her normal routine by the 4th day. I would be happy to answer any questions or give a referral to the doctor I used. Good Luck!
Check out the message board at Make Me Heal: http://messageboards.makemeheal.com/breast-augmentation-i....
I'm sure you'll find lots of info there. Good luck!
I had mine done11 years ago. I was not in any pain afterwards.. A little uncomfortable but that's it..( I didn't even take any pain meds after)
I didn't have my son at the time so I can't give advice on that part, but my doctor did tell me not to pick up anything over 10 lbs for the first 2 weeks... I was walking after 2 weeks and full blown working out after 4.. I would 100% do it again...
The ONLY thing that bothered me was when I first woke up after surgery I had a really bad sore throat, no biggie.. From having the tube in your mouth and it being so cold in the operating room.
I have A LOT of girlfriends that have implants and 80% of them were in barely any pain. The 20% that were all went to the same doctor and from what I've heard he's a little more rough under the knife..
Oh and I don't "need" to ever get them done again but I "want" to after having my son.
Good luck...
Make sure when your looking for doctors, that you go to at least 3 different one's :0)
I would ask you to consider the risks related to undergoing general anesthesia for an elective procedure, and factor that into your decision.
My sister has had implants in and out again, TWICE. The first set, one popped, so out they came. The second set, she was doing some exercise, it migrated up her chestwall and over to her shoulder. Once again, out it came. She now buys push-up bras from Victoria's secret.
The surgeons were highly reputable ones who are the medical faculty for major universities.
The other piece of data is that the satisfaction rate for breast reductions is much higher than for implants.
Good luck with your decision,
K.
I had breast augmentation done 3 years ago, almost 2 years before I got pregnant. I remember being up and about a few days after surgery: I went from an A to a D-DD. I have some back pain from the extra weight, but all in all I think it was totally worth it. I have self-confidence, and wouldn't trade my big boobs for small ones anyday! Just make sure if you go through with it, you seriously research doctors!!
i had mine done about 8 weeks ago and don't regret it at all. i was naturally busty before kids(DD thru hs and college), yet i have a very small frame(after 3 kids, i weigh 112lbs and wear a size 0). after nursing three kiddos, i was a deflated, saggy large B, i wasn't unhappy with the size, but was very self conscious in a swimsuit(we have a pool and spend a LOT of time in it). my little girl was 3 days shy of her first bday when i had mine done, my boys are 4 and 7. i had mine done on a tuesday, and my husband stayed home from work until the following monday. honestly, the pain wasn't bad, and the pain i did have was in my back/shoulder blade area, i guess from my muscles getting used to the extra weight again. mine were "high" for a few weeks and settled down, i am now a large D(so smaller than I am naturally) and very nicely shaped. i took pain meds on and off for about a week, but again, for the pain in my back/shoulders. it hasn't changed my life or anything nutso like that, but i do feel better about myself. my body has been through a lot after 3 nightmare pregnancies in addition to 3 losses, and i don't feel guilty for treating myself, we're not gonna go hungry or miss bills to pay for it. and, to repeat another poster, this is not an area to go cheap - research research research. you want a board certified surgeon that ONLY operates in joint commission accredited hospitals(NOT IN THEIR OFFICE) and only uses board certified anesthesiologists - additionally, i'd find one that sits you up on the OR table to see how things look, mine also didn't promise a specific size, but a range of sizes and he said he would go with the size that gave me "the most beautiful breast shape for my body". good luck!
A lot depends on the method you pick. Under the muscle gives much more realistic results (If you go through with the excruciating process of breaking up the scar tissue every day with the help of someone who is basically kneading your chest while you cry.) but it is much slower recovery. On the other hand it is much better for mammograms. Over the muscle still has it's painful moments, but it is somewhat less taxing for recovery, while making mammograms very difficult to read and creating that tacked on orb look that many women have after implants.
These days you can get them that don't pop and leak like people talk about below, or you can get them with saline in them. I would assume you need at least a good week of not having to lift anything or chase the kiddos after you get out of the hospital and then a slow increase in activity after that.
If you do them right and break up the scar tissue so they move vaguely naturally later, be aware that you're signing up for a lot of pain. Most doctors in this country fail to provide this follow up service, and tell you to do it at home. To really do it right it takes someone who is willing to hurt you and let you cry while they mobilize the tissue, shoving the boob back and forth in every direction for at least 5 full minutes every couple days. It hurts like hell. But the end results look and move much better.
If they go in under the arm for under the muscle implants, it can sever nerves and create weirdness that way accidentally in some cases. If they go in under the breast for over the muscle implants, some women have real trouble with the scar being irritated by bras after the surgery.
If you decide to do it, assume you should probably go one size bigger than whatever you want to talk yourself into when you look at your options. The single most common regret is that they talked themselves out of what would fit their frame better if they'd gone one bigger.
The recovery is not bad at all, but you cannot lift your children for a month afterwards. You can bend down, let them crawl into your arms and then stand up using your legs, but you are not supposed to "raise" your arms for awhile. I had no problems. The most important thing is that you find the right doctor. They need to specialize in boob jobs and do them all day long! Some doctor may do great faces or noses, but if they don't do LOTS of boobs, don't go to them. I would definitely plan to spend a day or two away from home after the surgery because you will want to get up and interact with your kids and the first couple days, it is important that you rest. Good luck!
I have not had this done, 1 because of the scars it would cause, I have several surgical incisions that I can not stand to have touched by myself or anyone for that matter, its painful, 2 I like for my breasts to be touched and scars would definately change my opinion of that. the 3rd reason is because my sis in law did it a few years ago, and the scaring on her is bad! (her skin is much less sensitive then mine and much more scar resistant) she went to a board certified doc (who specialized in breasts) and afterwards her husband said he liked the feel of the real ones much better, the fake ones were just that, plastic feeling. she did opt for under the muscle as well, they looked nice as long as she was in clothes because the scaring. she was happy with the appearance but unhappy with the scars. just one more item to factor in but it is a personal choice and if it were not for the scarring I would prob consider it myself just to keep them "up there" good luck and choose wisely!
best wishes!
Are you sure you have given yourself (your boobs) enough time to come back? My youngest is 5, i breastfed all four of my kids. They are back plus some :) Natural is so much better....even if they aren't perfect. My husband tells me so....lol!
