Looking for recommendations on bottles. Currently nursing but also want to pump and bottle feed. Would like to do both. Anyone have succes doing this with a certain brand of bottle. Thinking of trying born free.
Don't worry about it too much in my experience most babies do fine with breast and bottle. Both of mine went back and forth very easily for a year. I used Avent and Medela.
I think it depends on the child. My daughter would only drink from the Playtex DropIns bottles. The nipples are supposed to be the closest to the "real thing". I had to pump into medela bottles and then dump into the dropins at the time. I had tried Dr. Browns, Medela, and Advent with no success on her. My son didn't care what size or type of nipple. He just wanted fed. I used the playtex with him too only because I had some and didn't have to buy as many new ones. Playtex now makes a starter set that contains an adapter so that you can attach most breast pumps directly to the dropins.
Your baby will dictate which bottle they prefer. I'd recommend buying a few different kinds, seeing which they prefer and then buy a bunch more.
Has any recommended yet, though, that you NOT be the one to introduce the bottle at first? Your baby knows your scent, so they will be confused and likely refuse the bottle from you. We had to have someone else give the bottle when we introduced it to both children.
Our son hated it, and we freaked out about me going to work for the first time. Our pediatrician recommended I stay within an hour of home (I was working in outside sales at the time) in case he didn't take the bottle. It was smooth sailing, and I never had to come home. But, that's just one bit of advice that was a life saver.
I also use the Dr. Brown bottles. As far as you not being the one to introduce the bottle, my little guy had no problem with me introducing the bottle to him. I had heard this as well, but things went very smoothly for us when we needed to use a bottle.
I nursed and then switched to bottles and nursing around 2 mos. old and i used Medela. but i had a medela pump and the bottles attached directly to my pump from my boob (sorry there was just no other way to say that!). so i guess it depends on what kinda pump you have. i loved that system though - so freakin' easy. pump straight to the bottle. and, there was no "nipple confusion" at all and it went extremely smooth. better than any transition he's endured! hope that helps! good luck. :)
I would look at what pump you have or are planning on buying. Get the bottles that fit in that pump. I use a medela pump as well and it came with a bottle and I was able to buy additional ones. I loved mine too but it is really only good if you are planning on doig pumps once or twice a week since it is only a single pump. If you are planning on going back to work then buy a double pump.
We've used the First Years (with the Soothie nipple) and the Evenlfo bottles. He takes either one. He doesn't reallt care how he gets his milk, as long as he gets it=D

My daughter would only take Avent bottles so when it was time for my son to start taking a bottle in addition to nursing we tried those first...he HATED them!! So under the advice of a friend I tried the playtex drop in's. They are awesome!! Buy the goldish/brown nipples and once you feel them you will see they really do feel closest to the nipple. But, in the end, it's all going to be a trial and error cause it's what the baby wants! Good luck!
