Bpa-free, Spill Proof Child's Cup

Nalgene said that they are making BPA free cups and bottles that will have BPA free on the bottom of the containers. The ones you have now can still be used just don't put hot water in them or freeze them, both have been found to leech the chemicals into the liquids.

My daughter (14 months) uses the Kleen Kanteen. We have a Foogo, but she tends to bite on the mouthpiece, and I just noticed that once the mouthpiece on the foogo goes, I guess the whole sippy cup is a goner. At least with the Kleen Kanteen, the individual parts are replaceable.

Some of the Gerbers DO still contain BPA. Just because a company has taken a BPA free pledge does not mean that their older products still on the shelves are safe.

Klean Kanteen has a sippy valve option from Avent. I have seen the bottles and the sippy valve accessory at New Seasons. I would say this is the older child style with just the bottle, no handles.

Thermos make a stainless sippy cup under the name Foo-Go (I think that's right) available at Target. This one has side handles.

Sigg makes a great sippy type cup. It has a special sport top that will not spill (the kids have to push a little bit into the top to get the liquid out. I am sure you can get it at REI or your local sporting goods store. If you are unfamiliar with Sigg they use metal (aluminum or steel, not sure which one even thought we have a few). They have great patterns on them and are indestructable.

CuteSip is a brand new stainless steel bottle system that could be exactly what you're looking for! The bottles are BPA and lead free and 100% dishwasher safe to ensure the exterior finish will not chip off. Gerber makes two cups that are BPA-free: the Sip and Smile, and the Fun Grip Color Change. But those are the ONLY two out of the Gerber brand that are BPA-free. And they are much, much cheaper than the Kleen Kanteen. I also bought a SIGG, but it's not as good as a traditional sippy cup and it was waaaayyy more expensive.

You can visit Gerber's website, plug in your phone number, and a representative will call you within about 2 minutes to verify which sippies are BPA-free. Kind of a cool system.

You can also use the Born Free cups that are sold at Whole Foods and New Seasons. I have only used the 6 month + ones so far but they make one for older kids too.

They are GREAT!! I was trying to get a Foogo, but they were on back order everywhere and then my husband found the FUNtainer. It's the same thing, but printed with fun graphics. As long as the lid is closed they don't leak one drip. Our two year old loves them and it keeps liquids cooler (or warmer) longer because they are double-layered and insulated.

We also looked into Sigg bottles but I didn't like the idea of giving her aluminum with a "non-toxic lining" (aluminum is linked to Alzheimer's). And, Kleen Kanteen bottles - only single layer of stainless steel so they aren't insulated.

We got the first FUNtainer at Target so our daughter could test out the button and we could see if it would work well for her. But you can also find them online (once in awhile for cheaper than the standard $15ish).

I know that there are a lot of concerns and request for safe sippy cups. I run a little children's store in downtown Olympia. I placed an order for KleanKanteen sippy cups and will be as soon as the first order arrives. These are stainless steel cups with the covertible sippys. However, they are so in demand that I am expecting my first shipment in about 3 and 1/2 weeks. I know Nalgene now has a number of non-BPA bottles - not sure if that is in their sippy cups or not.

We've purchased from Klean Kanteen - www.kleankanteen.com - and have been very happy with them.

I recently read an article about another place, but I can't find it. I'm sure a Google search on BPA bottles would yield a lot.

Nubby sippy cups are all BPA free. They are also really inexpensive, so durable and have a hip design. We've been using them for a couple years without leak issues. They also don't have removable valves so there aren't parts to keep track of. They come in several styles of tops depending on the preference of your child too.

I did want to make a comment about the sigg cup. I used to really like the Sigg, but they're made out of aluminum which is actually a toxic metal. People are all in an uproar about aluminum in deoderant, but i haven't seen too much about aluminum in other things too that completely leach into our food and drink (ie, cups, cans, foil, etc.). Just FYI. At least the Foogoo cup is stainless steel. We have one of those too, for warm drinks and haven't had a problem with it leaking.

Klean Kanteen makes a stainless steel cup that is wonderful EXCEPT you need to switch out the green sippy part for another brand. The Klean Kanteen's sippy top leaks and I have emailed the company several times but they say that they have never heard of it leaking before. (That is very surprising to me since I know several other people who complain of the same leaking issue). I think the other brand that fits in the sippy top is made by Advent but I am not sure. I buy both the sippy cup and new sippy insert at New Season's. There are several different color 'sippers' depending on the age of your child. I have a teal one for my 2yo but I know they make a cream colored one and a blue one for other ages. It doesn't leak any more and the stainless steel is a great alternative to aluminum and plastic sippy cups.

Klean Kanteen. They are metal, so also unbreakable, no BPA, and have both sport top and spill proof lids. Love them. The only downside is they are a bit on the heavy side, but my daughter learned to manage it just fine, and she's younger than Tyler. :)

We also just bought new Nalgene bottles from REI. The sales rep was very informative and assured us that the new Nalgene bottles that are made in the USA are BPA free.

The Nalgene Grip-n-Gulp is now BPA free. All bottles that REI sells are now BPA free and they have the Nalgene Grip-N-Gulp. Here's the link. Throw out the old and stock up on some new one. They're on back order right now but go ahead and order, more are coming in each week. I have this bottle too and love it. Also, I work at REI and getting all of our vendors to go to BPA free has been a big focus for us for over a year now.

we just bought some new nalgene toddler bottles from rei.. they are bpa free...

babies r us has a list of companies whose bottles/cups do not contain bpa... many of them were not marked 'bpa free' which surprised me...

The playtex sippies are pretty good, and from what I have read do not contain BPA. They are good at no spill. We have used them since day one. They have a rubber insert inside that keeps them from spilling.
