Bpa-free Bottle Recommendations

I have been searching for a BPA-free bottle for my 13 month old. I've read different reviews on several, and am wondering if any of you have tried them and which ones you like. I will most likely purchase them over the Internet, as I cannot locate any in our small town. What would you recommend (or suggest to avoid)? THANKS!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for your responses and ideas! I've been considering switching to sippy's only, seeing that my daughter is getting older - so that's the route I'm going to take. I'm going to try out some of the stainless steel models suggested, and go from there. Thanks to those that commented on bottles, too, as I will take this into consideration when we have more children in the future!

Two recommendations: 1) Sassy MAM bottles. I love them! They are vented for colic, the bottoms come off as well as the tops for super easy cleaning and they are cute! The only downside is that they are a little big so can be tough for little hands to hold. I got mine online at Target.com. 2) Dr. Brown's is now coming out with a BPA free bottle in plastic and glass. They are really the standard on colic/gas control but are a little more expensive and have a lot of parts to clean.

I use the Gerber clearview for my twin girls. They are very inexpensive-$3-4 for 3 bottles at Target/Babies R Us. Avent also makes a BPA-free sippy cup, which I also purchased.

I have 2 of the Gerber GentleFlow bottles - they are pretty much a knock off of AVENT bottles - which I have a ton of. I'm using the Gerber bottle and the AVENT nipples and it seems to be working great. I was only able to get 2 9-oz bottles at a Walgreens. I haven't checked the internet in few weeks, but I could not find anywhere that had them in stock! So I will be looking for the other mom's suggestions too!

Also - I did go to AVENT's website and they said they will be introducing a BPA-free bottle this summer.

I've researched different safe and plastic-alternative bottles and sippy cups and have posted them on my blog. I've put links below.

Since your daughter is 13 months old, I'd try her on a sippy cup since you're going through a transition anyway. My daughter uses the Klean Kanteen and I can't say enough great things about them! Best of luck!

Hello. I know that you already have gotten a lot of responses for your question. I wanted you to have a list of all of the BPA free bottles and sippies:
http://safemama.com/2007/11/22/bpa-free-bottle-and-sippy-...
I also live in a very small town. I looked at every Walmart within 100 mi. and couldn't find a single BPA free bottle, however they do carry the Nuby sippies. I ordered my bottles (Gerber Fashion Tints) off of Ebay and got an excellent price.

Born Free - they are great! BPA free, never leak, wash great in dishwasher, help eliminate gas in tummy - I can't say enough good things about them. They are a little pricey but worth it. You can get them at babies r us or lots of places online.
With my last child I used both Advent - (leaks and gas!) & Dr. Brown's -(too complicated and hard to clean also pretty expensive).

I can only comment on Bornfree bottles. I posted awhile ago because we were having problems with the nipples collapsing. I am not a big fan of them because they have this venting system that is just one more thing to mess with in the middle of the night (or any other time I am making/washing/etc a bottle). I would look for a bottle that has minimal parts. I would also make sure that the nipples are made from a thicker silicone so you don't have any issues with them collapsing.

We just went to the Living Green Expo in St. Paul 2or 3 wks ago. There was a booth there that had so many people around, I grabbed one of there brochures and looked it up when we got home. It's a stainless steel canteen. They come in many sizes, including one that you can put the avent rubber spout. We ordered water bottles for working out at the health club and the bikes too. Love them, they are great and don't worry about those nasty plastic toxins getting in our body any longer.

We switched from the avent bottles to the Gerber Gentle Flow. They are just like the avent bottles, just that they are BPA free. They are very inexpensive and you can find them at your grocery store or Walgreen's.

I used Born Free trainer cups (come in 7 & 9 oz bottles)and then switched my 11 month to Platex sippy cups. The Playtex sippy cups are BPA free. I liked the Born free sippy spouts because they are identical to sippy cup spouts. It made for an easy transition to the sippy cup. We no longer use My Born Free bottles (sad only used the Born Free for maybe a month).

Good Luck-J.

Edited to add: there is a website that lists all BPA free and nonfree items -zrecommends. I copied a link to it for you.

Maybe this isn't for your daughtber, but at 13 months you might want to forgo the bottles altogether and start with sippy cups (plastic codes 1,2, 4 or 5 are okay).

We started using the Evenflo glass bottles. I guess I'm becoming very suspicious of anything plastic and am trying to go back to the basics. I feel better using the glass bottles and they are very cheap. I know you can get a 3 pack of glass bottles for 5 around 5 dollars on amazon.com.. Good luck on your choice.

The Playtex nurser (with the drop ins) is BPA free and they're pretty much available everywhere. So are Born Free which are available at Babies R Us, not sure where else.

I had a chat with my doctor about this. Basically you only have to worry about the BPA if you use the bottle for a long time. Basically it is from wear and tear that breaks down the plastic and causes the BPA. So any type of bottle or cup will be fine, as long as you replace it after a year's use. Good Luck!

I currently located BPA free bottles made by Parents Choice. These are the tinted ones. I located the packs of three at Walmart for $2.96. My three month old daughter seems to have adjusted to them quite well from breastfeeding. Good luck.

When I found out about the BPA issue in plastics, I switched my son to Born Free bottles. I didn't use them too long as it was nearly time to transition him off bottles, so I can't make a strong recommendation. However, I did like how the air vented (similar concept to Brown's). Unfortunately though, I always seemed to need to make sure the side slit wasn't stuck closed for it to work properly. No biggie - just took an extra second.

Hello J.!
Coincidentally, my husband and I just started researching this issue yesterday. I don't have an answer for you but am hoping I can piggy-back off of your question. I don't know how to use this site. How can I see all the responses that people provide? Can you e-mail me at ____@____.com?
Thanks J.!

Hi,
If you don't mind using glass, I would recommend the EvenFlo glass bottles. They sell them at Babies R Us, and they're very reasonable. EvenFlo also makes BPA free plastic bottles that are nice for when you're out and about. The bottles come with latex nipples, but the silicon nipples are nearby on the shelf and can be purchased separately. My little guy switched from our Avent to these bottles without any trouble.
