Can anyone recommend a nipple most like the breast to introduce a three week old to a bottle of expressed breastmilk? I'd like my husband to take over one night feeding but would like to avoid nipple confusion and continue to have him take the breat regularly. I have read that I should purchase nipples that are shaped similarly to a breast and have a slow flow but wondered what brands/styles other mom's recommend. Tips on bottles would also be appreciated.
I used the Soothie bootles. My son seemed to like those a lot. The other bottles he liked were the Evenflo bottles. Good luck!

I swear by the BreastFlow bottles by the First Years company - they are available at Target and Babies-R-Us. My infant was in the NICU for the first week of life and we found that these bottles worked the best for him - he had no nipple confusion at all. The two piece nipple requires the baby to both compress and suck, while most bottle nipples just require compression for the milk to flow, which does not work on the breast!
Another recommendation - wait another week before introducing the bottle - our lactation consultant said that by 1 month old, babies have developed a strong suction and pattern and will have less problems going back and forth.
Why stop at one nighttime feeding? I go to bed at 8pm, hubby feeds him at 9pm and 11pm, so I get to sleep for five or six hours straight - having uninterrupted sleep works miracles for your state of mind! (it's called shift sleeping and helps a bunch!)

I used the playtex nurser bottle with the natural latch nipples with no problems. They have 2 types of liners for the bottle the drop ins which are alot easier & they also have the original bottle liner that you put in the bottle & it goes over the top. I liked the original liners when I was breastfeeding because I could store the milk in the liner & then when ready just thaw & use.
Congratulations on the new arrival, and welcome to motherhood! I am with the other moms, I LOVE playtex drop ins with the silicone nipples (aside from the allergy issue, the latex nipples seem to not hold up so well after a few cycles in the dishwasher). They seem to work best for both my girls. As mentioned, if you get the starter kit you have a choice, so there shouldn't be a problem with moving through the stages. I personally would NOT suggest Avent. Myself, and ALL my friends that tried their bottles had problems with tons of milk leaking from the bottle. Hope you find something that works.

Depends on the baby. My first son had a definite nipple preference (mine) and refused all bottles. I tried all sorts of them before I just gave up.
Both my babies liked the madela bottles/nipples best (my 4 month old still does ;)
I have only given my baby boy a bottle a few times and he seems to do best with the playtex ventair bottles. They make two kinds, one all bottle fed and one for nursing babies, make sure you get the later, it is a little hard to find on the box but they are marked.

I prefer strick to nursing but understand. It part of being mom, and doesn't last very long! My kids are grown and wow, it happened soooo fast!!
Are you drinking plenty? I had a port-crib next to my bed and that made made it easier to nurse, burb, change and then roll the baby back over. Then if he fusses he is right there for you to pat. That was the easiest way for me to do the middle of the night feeding.

Hi W.! Congrats on your baby boy! My baby boy (Jaxson) will be ten weeks this Friday. I started him on the Adiri bottle at around three weeks. He did great! The bottles are now sold at The Right Start or on-line. They aren't cheap by any means but he has no gassiness or any spit up.It is designed most like the breast than anything I have ever seen. My daughter, who is now almost twelve...would never take a bottle. I can switch with this bottle from breastfeeding with no trouble. He's a big eater, so it is nice to get a break once in a while. I used the Avent Bottles with the slow flow nipples. These were recommended in my child birth classes and they were great. They said the slow flo nipples similuate the breast because the baby still has to work for the milk. I was told the smaller the hole the less confusion the baby will have with the bottle. If you get too large of a hole the milk comes out easy and the baby doesn't have to work for it. This could cause the baby to prefer the easier way out...using the botte.
I am still breastfeeding but use the bottles while I am at work and I have been extremely happy with them! My baby had little trouble with adjusting to the bottles. I read somewhere to make sure the first couple of times your husband tries to feed her that you stay out of the room. Somehow the baby can smell you are near and prefers being with you versus the bottle. It took my husband a week to get used to the whole process and then we were good to go!!Good luck with it!
I have had very good luck with Advent and Soothie bottles. I used both, but with different children. He will ultimately be the decision maker :) but have your husband try with the bottle instead of you because he can smell you and knows you have something better to offer. Good luck!

When I started introducing the bottle to my son we used Playtex Drop in bottles. Any the drop in's are designed to collapse more like thr breast. Good luck
I preferred the Playtex drop-ins. I bought the starter kit and it had several nipples in the box with instructions telling you which nipple to use during which stage, etc...

I bottle fed breastmilk to both my kids because neither one could latch. I loved the Ventair bottles because they suck air out as the baby drinks and reduces gas bubbles. I didn't have to worry about nipple confusion though. My neighbor is a pediatric nurse and did not breastfeed either of her children. She did (and actually still does) use the Playtex drop-in bottles. The drop in contracts like the breast and the nipple on the bottle resembles Mommy's.
My daughter never got the hang of latching on, so after 2 weeks she was a bottle fed baby. We did, however, try several diffrent types of bottles and deceided to stick with the Avent. I know some people have said that they have problems with them leaking, but that only happens if you screw them on too tight. I liked using the playtex drop-ins, but my husband always seemed to have trouble feeding her with it, something about getting her to take the nipple(I never understood his problem, but my dd was ok with switching, so we did.) We also tried the breastflow and dd never seemed to eat as much with it. (my husband hated this one most of all.) I know that your not choosing a bottle for your husbands pref. but if your son doesn't mind which one, I thought I would give you a man's veiw point.
