My son took to the sippy cup very easy and never even noticed when we threw away the bottle and binky. My son is just now a yea and 3 months. All we did was we gave him the sippy cup with the straw first because that was the only one he would take at around 10 months. Two months later he was on the sippy all the time and we threw away the bottles and binkies. Although we do have to watch him around his 3 month old baby brother lol he tries to steal his binky and bottle but just to run around with not to drink or eat it lol.

Cold turkey.
Just start putting it in sippy cups.
If she wants her milk bad enough, she'll drink it out of the cup.

I go cold turkey with my kids at 12 mos. Couple days of pain and then we're free of it.

Try using ga regular cup and a straw for milk it will be messy at first but she will get it. Pour about 1/2 inch of milk into the cup and go from there. Good Luck!

When my granddaughter turned 1, her pediatrician said firmly to stop the bottle. When I asked if we should do it gradually, she emphatically said no, just don't give it to her anymore, throw away or hide all bottles. It was kind of sad for me, because I loved giving her her bottle and wondered if it was going to be hard. Well, it was easy. We gave her one last bottle then went cold turkey. She stopped the bottle and never went back, although once in a while she'd see a bottle and be very interested. We started her with sippy cups and it took a while, maybe several months really, before she really liked sippy cups, but once she did, she loved them.

This is so hard bc that bottle gives them so much comfort. My daughter is the same age as yours and we are also thinking of weaning her from bottles soon. She gets one before her nap and one before bedtime and she REALLY looks forward to them. Our son was the same way. When he was 2 and a half we took him to our friend's house and he gave all his bottles away to their baby. We literally gave them a bag with ALL bottles in it. Then we went home and from then on we could not give in bc there were no bottles in the house. He was pretty upset for 3 days but then he was fine! I think cold turkey is the way to go. You just have to be determined and strong. Remember this is really good for your child. Good luck! This is a great age to do it...around age 2. And be thankful you are not like our friends. They have a 4 and a half year old who is still addicted to her bottles!

Have you tried sippy cups? That might make a huge difference. If she does not NEED a bottle at almost 2 years, I would not keep giving it to her. Give her a sippy cup or regular cup instead of the bottle.

My daughter just turned 18 months and we are in the same boat as you. We are currently working on trying to get rid of the bottles. She also has one before each nap and at bed time and I agree that the daytime ones will be the easiest to get rid of first. My daughter also doesnt seem to need the bottle to sleep but I find that the night time one has become such a routine that I am not looking forward to taking that one away. I actually had some success with getting her to drink some milk out of a sippy cup with a straw and I am trying to do that with her before her naps so that I know she is getting the milk in her and so that she doesnt feel her tummy needs it before a nap. I think though, if you are worried about her calcium intake to relax with that and just make sure that she gets yogurt and cheese maybe more so while you transition so that you can be confident that she is getting what she needs and work from there. I know my daughter loves to drink from a straw and to share a sip or twenty =) out of our glass so maybe you could try her on sipping away at a glass of milk that you pour for yourself and share that with her
Good Luck

By the time my now-almost-10-year-old was a year old he drank everything out of a sippy cup -- except his milk, which had to be in a bottle...eventually, the only thing that worked was to take him to the store and have him pick out different cups just for his milk and only for his milk (he picked out the playtex insulated ones with some fish/octopus pictures)...the other sippies(gerber/uninsulated) were for water and juice....Perhaps a similar approach (very different cups for milk) would work for your daughter...Good luck!!!

We went cold turkey to cups but I did it at 13 mos with my 1st and 12 mos w my 2nd and never put cows milk in a bottle...you will probably have greater resistance. I second the cups with straw idea and focus on big kid cup idea :) hopefully your little one is receptive! Good luck! Might take a bit of time but do not give in and hide the bottles!

The day before each of my 3 kids first birthday, I took allllll the bottles and tossed them! My son is the only 'picky' one... he will only drink milk out of a sippy cup with a straw.

It might sound harsh, but cutting bottles out cold turkey has been tried and true for me. The kids would get mad the first few days, but once they realized that the bottle wasn't coming back, they got over it REAL quick. Just stick to your guns; persistence is key! It's not going to hurt her to not drink milk for a few days while she transitions.

We got rid of the daytime bottles by a year - started using a regular cup (only put about an inch of milk at a time to start) at about 8 months. We switched out the bed time bottle for a cup at 13 months. What do you mean she won't drink her milk out of a cup? What does she do if you only give her a cup?

Hi!
When our daughter was still using bottles we started having her drink water from a cup with a lid and straw(not one of those valve cups). We'd leave her water around all day so she could experiment and get the hang of it. Then, we started leaving sippy cups filled with just a small amount of milk around throughout the day as well so, like her water, she could experiment with that at her own pace. At the times she'd normally have her bottle, we still gave her the bottle though. As she got better with her sippy cup of practice milk we replaced one bottle at a time with a full glass of sippy cup milk. We started with mid day bottles(this way she wouldn't get frustrated in the morning after not eating all night or go to bed with an empty stomach in case she didn't drink it). When she realized that for that one serving she had the option of sippy cup or nothing she would drink it and eventually we cut out all bottles frustration and tear free(for Mom and Baby!). So for us we used 2 different cups for water and milk(one straw and one sippy), replaced the bottles slowly and used 1/4 filled practice cups to get the ball rolling and her interested. Also, after trying loots of sippy cups that she didn't like or would keep her interest, we found Tilty Cup. It was like magic! She took it right away and smooth sailing from there!
Hope this helps a little. Good luck and happy 4th of July!
