Hi everyone! My daughter's 7th birthday is right around the corner and I was thinking about getting her a chapter book series (or at least part of one). She is in 1st grade and LOVES to read and be read to. Her reading level is considered to be about 3rd grade level. She loves adventure, sci-fi, animals, thrillers and all things girly (she has a wide range of interest). Any suggestions about some of your favorite book series for a 7 year old? If it is too challenging for her at this point, my husband and I don't mind reading them to her until she can do it herself... Thanks in advance :-)
Thank you all so much, and feel free to keep them coming! I have been browsing through many of your suggestions and finding many of them on my daughters classroom scholastic on-line page. For as many books as she has, Nancy Drew is the only series book she has (that I am aware of anyway). She LOVED the borrowers movie, so I was excited to see that was a book series (although I may have to read her this one). She will love the Geronimo Stiton books, Magic tree house books, Little house of the prairie, Warrier cats, puppy place... so many wonderful suggestions!! Thank you so much moms, I knew I could count on you for some great ideas and the perfect birthday present (and Christmas) :-) The hard part now is which one to start with! HA! HA!

Ivy and Bean series. My oldest isn't a huge fan of reading but loves those. My husband and I also find them very funny.
How about the Little House on the Prairie series. I loved all those books and still enjoy them!
Check out Warrior Cats series by Erin Hunter. My daughter loved them as a second grader and many of them are written in graphic novel style. I think they are for grade 2 through 4.
What about the Nancy Drew books?
The Borrowers (original, Aloft, Afield, Abroad and one other)
ETA: Love Judy Blume but she is not old enough for Forever and probably a little young for Are You There God, It's Me Margaret.
My daughter loved the American Girl books. Meet XXX, Happy Birthday XXX, XXX learns a Lesson and etc. although she did not care for the mystery books.

You also might want to try the Great Illustrated Classics which are shorter versions (but very true to the originals) of the classics including, Black Beauty, Heidi, Treasure Island, and The Secret Garden.
It's a little bit easy for her, but my daughter absolutely loved the Geronimo Stilton books.
I will be honest... my daughter is an advance reader (and has been since she was 4 years old). I didn't really like her reading these all that much, simply because she read them so easily and quickly. But, the stories were of interest to her and she ENJOYED them. She'd read one in a couple hours and be ready for the next.. it started adding up. At the same time, she could have easily read the Little House books (I loved them when I was a girl)... but she has NEVER had ANY interest in them. Flat out turns them down. And at their age, reading should be fun and something they want to do....
These books are about a mouse detective and his (and his sister's?) adventures. They are listed as grades 2-4, typically, and ages 7 and up. My daughter was very advanced and read them at about 5. If you click on the link, amazon lets you "look inside" to see if you think it might be what your child might like. My kids also liked the "Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego?" (or whatever that show was)... so these books, I think, had that element of intrigue and discovery that they liked about the show.

And Ron Roy ( or maybe Rob roy?) does the A to Z mysteries plus, Calendar mysteries, Those are fun.

We too love Magic Tree House, Cam Jansen (awesome series), Boxcar Children, Arthur, and Harry Potter.
My 3rd grader still loves the Geronimo Stilton books and his reading level is about 7th grade. If you like those books, Geronimo has a sister named Thea Stilton and she has her own series. Also try the Judy Moody books. We haven't read them but Judy Moody has a brother and he has a series that we read. Also try the A to Z Mysteries. You can also go to the Scholastic website and find books that are at her reading level. Also talk to her teacher and get some ideas.
I have a first grader and he's big on the Cam Jansen series right now.
My son is in first grade too. He's at a similar reading level and has similar interests :). His favorite series are:

For an individual book (well, a set of 3), I cannot recommend My Father's Dragon enough.

My daughter (1st grader) is also an advanced reader, and she loves the Junie B. Jones books. They are challenging enough for her, but the content is appropriate for a 6 or 7 year old. Good luck!
