Book Recommendations for a 10 Month Old

Little mouse the big hungry bear and the red ripe strawberry. It is one of my families absolute favorites.

Every Eric Carle book you can get your hands on. They have great pictures and, specifically,
Brown Bear, Brown Bear,
Polar Bear, Polar Bear,
Panda Bear, Panda Bear,
The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and
The Very Quiet Cricket
have a repetative theme and rhythm that makes them great pre-readers.

A lot of these come in board book form, which is perfect for her age, because she can look at them without needing you right there to make sure she doesn't rip the pages. So you can read them to her and she can look at them on her own.

We have loved, literally all of these books, and I hope you find ones that you love too. Still, I'm with you, 67 times a day makes you crazy. On the up side, how fabulous is it that she loves to read!

Anything and Everything by Sandra Boynton. Initially the rhymes and colorful pics will spark her interest, but has she gets older she will understand the silliness in each book and will love that!

I have found the best place to get children's books is Ollies (not sure if you have any there or not) but they are at deeply discounted prices (like under $3 per book).

I second the Sandra Boynton books. I've been cleariing out most of our baby books because my kids are now 6 and 9, but they still make sure I keep the Sandra Boynton books. And there are board book versions of a number of Dr. Seuss books. They are just shorter versions of the regular books.

That's great! Go to your local library, take out 10 board books. Call her attention to someone in each page. Ask her short questions. Whatever she babbles back, respond, "Yes, you are right! Turn the page." (Guide her hand to turn the page). Once you have read through those 10, go back and get another 10. You can get through a lot of books that way and find books she likes - and that you like. Dr. Seuss is great, Frog and Toad, too, once she gets beyond board books. Illustrations are key at this point - choose beauty - she is soaking up everything she sees.

Dogs by Matthew Van Fleet was and still is one of my kids favorites. There are tails that wag, heads that shake, fur to touch and ears that flop! GREAT book!!

Also Ten Tiny Tickles by KAren KAtz. She has many good loft the flap books, but this was their favorite.

Keep reading. I know its frustrating but you are doing something wonderful for her!!

My boys loved "There is a monster at the end of this book", and "Another Monster at the End of This Book" (Sesame Street Ser.)


Also "If you give a mouse a cookie". They still love that one!

I read Dr. Seuss and Sesame Street books to my daughter. I'm sure you won't get bored reading these. There is a large selection of childrens' books in Barnes & Noble that are good too! Enjoy!

Ha! We were like that with Go Dog Go! A friend of mine also said that she had to start hiding some of the books in the closet b/c she just couldn't take it anymore!! LOL! Something to think about! ;)

My daughter also loved the Diaper David books by David Shannon, all the Baby Einstein books and Nursery Rhyme books. Tomie DiPaola makes a cute one with few words and nice pictures.

I agree with the crowd on Sandra Boynton. My daughter also likes books by Karen Katz, all the ones we have are lift the flap books which are fun. Mother Goose's nursery rhymes is a great book too, you can read the short stories to her now and the longer ones later. Have you seen the Goodnight series? We love reading Goodnight New Jersey, try picking up Goodnight New York. These books give a lot of information about each state but are colorful with great illustrations too. A great way for little ones to learn about where they are from. Good luck with your little reader!

I have to agree with the others about Sandra Boynton. EVERYTHING by her has been loved by both my kids.

Pat the Bunny! My kids loved it, and at 10 mo, she is old enough to be participating! She will like this book!

I love Goodnight Gorilla. Somehow the lack of words and great pictures encourages me to be creative and make up additional parts of the story so it can be different every time that we read it.

Eric Carle and Sandra Boyton books have been a big hit in our household. I also like the book Go Dog Go by PD Eastman because it teaches a lot of labeling and postional concepts. And my kids also liked the Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You book by Dr. Seuss because it's just a lot of fun sounds.

It's so wonderful to teach children to love books early on.
Both my kids grew up to be very avid readers.
There are so many good books, it's hard to pin down a list.
My kids both had a lot of the "Little Golden Books". They're inexpensive and can be found anywhere which makes it easy to change things up a bit.

I agree with all of above, plus Mommy Hugs, Gossie, word books (my son loved the happy baby books -words,colors etc). Also there is nothing wrong with older books if your child will sit through them. At 12 months one of my sons favorite books was 'in the night kitchen' and 'danny and the dinosaur' - just be careful about ripping!
We often take books out of the library for variety and to get some good ideas. The librarians can be really helpful there as well.

If you are getting bored try some books about things you want her to learn. Animal sounds -- books about animals with great pictures, you can read as you say what does a cow say? Mooo
Numbers --- number books etc with letters
They are not too young to learn, however they are sometimes too young to let you know they are learning.
Mine all loved Richard Scarry books. There are smaller ones out there now as mine were young when his first books came out.
I found books with great pictures were great for the younger set. Don't discount nursery rhymes, kids memorize them and that builds brain connections.
Hope you get lots of ideas. Don't discount the library for many more

My daughter is just over 2 we read 3-5 books every night. Many are listed in your other responses. One of her early favorites not listed by anyone else is 8 silly monkeys and we still read it today.

Reading is so important, keep at it even if its the same book over and over in the end it will be worth it.

One for when she is a bit older, we love and we (her and I) can resight by memory is "The Little Bug that Sneezed".

Goodnight Moon....all my kids loved it. They loved searching for and finding the mouse!
We're Going On A Bear Hunt was another fave.
Maybe take your daughter to the book store or library. Put her in front of the board book section and see what she's drawn to. I was many times surprised by which books my kids wanted to read over and over. Good luck and happy reading!

Sandra Boynton makes really cute books. Letters, numbers, animals- you name it. They have cute little rymes to them also. I highly recommend. My son has about 10 of them and still enjoys reading them and hes 2.5 now. Hope this helps.

Ok I know everyone has said Sandra Boynton books..we have a ton in our house. But my daughter's fave of hers was The Belly Button Book. It's so cute.
