I was wondering if anyone knew the name of the book I could buy for my 9 year old daughter about going through "the change" of puberty, etc.. I saw someone write about it on here the other day, but I can't seem to find the entry. Any book suggestions, etc.. would be helpful.. I figured it was about time to start talking about it w/her, and could use any help I can get!!! Thanks!

TAKE HER TO THE LIBRARY, SHOW HER WHERE THE SEX ED BOOKS ARE, AND LET HER PICK WHICH ONES TO TAKE HOME!!! not only will it be a great learning experience, but it helps you be more involved, even if it's just showing her where she can find advice on her own. Also you may want to direct her to a few sex-ed web sites when she gets a little older, this is actually a great time to introduce internet safety to her as well! warn her of the bad sites and explain why they are bad... tell her over-eighteen sites are against the law
www.afraidtoask.com was one I found myself when I was fourteen-yr-old who knew nothing about sex from my parents...
my parents never gave me 'the talk' ...I had to learn everything through my own research... You will have a closer relationship with her if you give her the talk!
Since she is still 9, supervise her internet searches. Let her search with you and ask you questions.
I wish my mom had asked some one for advice about explaining what the body does and what parts are for...... up til age 14 I thought the pee-hole and vagina were one hole and that's what babies came out of!!!! PLEASE EVERYONE TALK TO YOUR KIDS ABOUT SEX!
There is a book by Judy Blume called "Are you there God? It's me, Margaret." Excellent book for little girls!
Our Bodies, Ourselves is a good one. The latest edition is fairly liberal, so you may want to explore it together, but it is a great reference book for all stages of child and adult womanhood (including menopause, breastfeeding, etc.).
The American Girl book The Care and Keeping of You. You can find it at any bookstore. It is great; I highly recommend it.
Get a set of Dr. Dobson’s Preparing for How to Survive the Coming Years of Change tape series. There are six cassettes you can listen to. As you listen with your child, you can stop the tape and talk about one of the topics.
Note: I haven't listened to these personally, but read about them.
Hi, N.! I bought my daughter the American Girl "The Body Book for Girls." It was recommended to me by a neighbor, and my daughter (who is 10 now) loved it from day one. It's written and illustrated in a very young, hip way that is non- threatening and easy for the girl to understand if she reads it alone, but has tons of good information that opens up great discussion when you read it together. I found it at Bath & Body Works, but it may also be at book stores or online. Worth every penny! Good luck!
Hi N.!
It is called The Period Book. I am sorry that I do not remember who the author is but it is a wonderful book. I used it with my now 14 year old daughter. We would read a chapter at a time together, then I would let her ask questions and give her a day or two to think about what we read and learned and an opportunity to ask questions that she thought of afterwards before we started on the next chapter. It made things soooooo much easier. It is a great book.
American girl has a book out about all the changes a girl's body goes through. I can't remember the title of the book, but you can get it an the American Girl website, or at Bath and Body Works.
American Girl books has a great book that I gave my daughter. It's called "The Care and Keeping of You - The Body Book for Girls". My daughter is now 12 and took alot of information from that book.
Absolutely check out www.family.org and go to resources. They have an awesome cd program called "Preparing for Adolescence". Check it out. Good for either sex.
American Girl has one. I don't remember the name of it but i know they have one. My daughter will be 9 in April. I purchased "The Period Book" for her on Amazon.com. I paid $1.98 for the book and $3 for shipping. If you go to Amazon.com and plug in "The Period Book" it will come up with all kinds of books for the same subject. I'm actually going to buy the American Girl book as well just haven't done so yet. To get the cheaper priced book, find the book you want to purchase and then click where it says New/Used. That's where I got mine for $1.96. Your shipping will probably be more than the price of the book but it was worth it.
American Girl has two great books out that are starters that help lead into other questions later.
You might try "How you are changing", by Jane Graver. It is for ages 8-11 years.
It's been a very long time, (my aunt actually got it for me when I was a kid) I think it's called "What's Happening To Me". I'm sure there are some better ones out there now, you could probably check @ Barns & Nobel. Hope that helps ;)
