Mums, I am scared bec I noticed a dark red spot on my underware and this lasts for 2 days. I never had this and am a little worried. I think I am on ovulation since the period is due 2 weeks from now. Last month I went to see a gyne and also did a Pap smear. It was ok. But know this bleeding with cramps, has this ever happened to you?

What can I do next?

Most likely it's just hormones. If you are really concerned then give a call into the gyn's office and see what they have to say. DON'T USE GOOGLE!! Google will convince you that it's stage 4 cancer and you have 2 days to live.

Happens all the time with me - happened when I was a teen and it happens now as I'm peri menopausal. How old are you? That may affect it.

Hi, M.,

I don't know how old you are, but this did happen to me. Twice in my lifetime in fact. After I had my second child, when I was 21, and then again in my mid to later 30's.

The first time was a hormonal imbalance and was taken care of with birth control and can also be taken care of with progesterone for a couple of months to get you back on a cycle.

The second time was peri-menopause and was also hormonal, but later it was because of irregular, non cancerous, fibroids in my uterus. I had a D&C and endometrial ablation. I have 5 children and my husband has had a vasectomy so I never intend to get pregnant again. I no longer have a period and got to do it about 10 years early. Because my ovaries still function I don't need hormone replacement therapy. It's the best decision I ever made.

Hope this helps.

L.

Are you on the pill? If you are late taking a pill or take two at a time, this can happen. If I were you, I would call your gyn's nurse and talk to her about it. I think she could allary your fears, especially sine you were checked out by your gyn last month.

I started having this a few months ago, almost every month, I bleed pretty much exactly two weeks into my cycle. Very light bleeding, almost spotting, for one day only, with cramps but not severe. Feels like a period, but not and then it goes away. This is "ovulation bleeding" and more common than you think. I'm 36 years old.

This happened to me this month, and has happened before occasionally. I'm 43 and figure it's another joy that comes with getting older. :)

It could be bleeding from ovulating, hormonal changes, or you could be pregnant. Record the dates, flow amount and see if it happens again. If it was only a few days and you are not pregnant (do a test just to make sure) then wait and see if it happens next month.

Ovulation and early pregnancy both can cause mid cycle bleeding. Also, fibroids, polyps and endometriosis can cause bleeding (it wouldn't be picked up on a pap smear. If it continues, get it checked
