D.D.
Spotting can last for a while.
However, a word of caution - ibuprofen is a blood thinner and can make bleeding worse (as does asprin and naproxen, they are all in the same drug catagory). If possible, use tylenol instead.
I am 10 weeks, 1 day post c-section (where I was blessed with an amazing little boy), and the bleeding has come back (I've had maybe 7-8 days total where I have had no bleeding). I've also been light-headed, having some fairly bad abdominal pain (that DOES NOT feel like cramps), and a bit nauseous. I've called my ob/gyn a couple of times and each time they tell me that I'm having my first "real" period after my c-section, and frankly, I'm tired of hearing that because this doesn't feel like a period. In addition, I am taking the mini-pill, breastfeeding, AND taking the 600mg of ibuprofen every 6 hours as they advised to stop the bleeding and nothing seems to be working. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance :)

I have never taken the mini-pill, but I'm sure even the mini-pill would affect your hormones. I can tell you that I've had two c-sections, and my period has never been the same as it was before children. Mine are very light with very little or very light cramping, and I only have a period every three months or so.
It's really quite common for your period to be very different after a pregnancy.
I would make a note of everything - how long you bleed, how heavy it is (light, moderate, heavy), if you notice it being heavier after you've been active, how your cramping feels, other symptoms, etc. Just take good notes so that you have helpful information to give your OB if you feel the need to call in a few days.
I do think you have to try and trust your OB and relax. Keep taking notes, but try to relax for now. This really could just be your first period.
didn't have a mini pill in my day, but feeling dizzy and bleeding can be quite a problem, so I suggest in the meantime call a pharmacist and get a good iron pill-losing the blood will make you dizzy -but if you get iron then remember it might darken your stools or harden them a bit...so, also have things like prunes handy. Plus breastfeeding made me dizzy (loved it though) so continue lots and lots of liquids and you will be back to yourself in no time. Your first 'real' period after a c-section will probably be like this off and on for awhile. The best you can do is work with your other conditions. However if there are side effects from the 'mini' pill as you call it and they are identifiable, then perhaps you call the company where it comes from, go back to the doctor or find a different one. In most cases, too, pharmacists are a fountain of knowledge as well as the nurses on the baby ward. Good luck.
That sounds a lot like what I went through after my last c-section 2 years ago. I actually thought I was hemorrhaging because I was losing so much blood and the period was so heavy. This lasted for about 8 days I think, I was soaking tampons and pads at the same time. But, it finally calmed down and now they are back to normal for the most part. The Ibuprofen will help with the pain and the inflammation, but it also thins the blood, so its kind of a balancing act. Good luck! It probably is just your first period. I didn't bleed like this after the first section, but I sure did after the 2nd.
There is someone in my building who went through similar escapade and she seems to be doing well. email ____@____.com
I was on the mini-pill , for quite a while & had sections . When on that mini-pill & nursing, I had sporadic bleeding. I didn't have any of the other symptoms you're describing, though.
It's been 17 years since I had my C-Section but I do remember bleeding off and on for a very long time. It seemed like everytime I would think the bleeding would stop, I would over do it and it would come back. I did get some dizziness but that would be because I was a bit dehydrated. I nursed and couldn't believe the amount of water that my body needed to consume!! I don't know what the mini-pill does but 10 weeks post seems to be early to be getting a period, but your dr. would know best. Good luck to you and congratulations on your beautiful boy!
My first few periods after having my DD were AWFUL! Before birth, I never got any symptoms at all. I just bled for a couple days, and that was that.
I was also on the mini pill, while nursing.
Your symptoms sound very similar to mine. My doctor went into more detail to explain the symptoms though...
The light headedness is likely because you are losing blood while your body is still healing from a recent trauma. (A c-sec is a major surgery, no matter how common it is... I gave birth vaginally, but had some complications that really took a toll on my body. I got dizzy for the first 6 months whenever I was on the rag.)
The abdominal pain feels different because your uterus is still reverting back to "normal" after carrying however many lbs of baby, plus all the fluids, plus the workout of labor. (Plus, because you had a c-sec, I imagine that it WOULD feel different after having been cut open!)
Nausea is likely a side effect of hormone fluctuations, likely from nursing and the mini pill. I had hoped for a break from it, as many nursing moms seem to get, but my period returned shortly after my postpartum bleeding stopped. :/
Also, my first few periods were really wonky. I used to be so regular I would know the time of day I would start... Now (even three years later) I have to give myself a 3 day buffer period. I also bleed differently... I used to have a steady flow, and now it's heavy at the beginning, then goes to spotting for 2-3 days. I am a LOT more moody when PMSing, and I always get horrible tension headaches.
Also... I can't use the same brand tampons I used to. (If you use them...) the only thing I can use now are playtex sport, along with a liner because even they leak a little.
Sigh. I just have to remind myself that my DD is SOO worth it. Lol.
