Has anyone had a child who has had a bladder infection/uti? My son is 16mo and for the past week he has been saying hurt. The first time he said it I asked him what hurt I was pointing to all parts. He didn't seem in pain, no bruises or anything. When he said it again a few days later I asked if his pee-pee hurts and he said pee-pee hurt. so I got all excited and started asking questions. He doesn't say it all the time, he does not cry when peeing nor does he pull at it. He doesn't have a fever or an odor. I called the doctor and they told me to come in if he says it again or other symptoms. He does tell me when he has to poop soI kind of think he is just realizing he is peeing and doesn't understand what is happening. any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't won't to overact but at the same time I will feel horrible if something is wrong and didn't take him to the doctors right away. Myhusband and sitter think he is fine.

What can I do next?

BLADDER INFECTION I DEAL WITH ALL THE TIME. REASON OUR DAUGHTER WAS BORN 9 WKS EARLY WITH A BIRTH DEFECT. SPINA BIFIDA AND WELL SHE GETS HOME CATHERED. THIS INFORMATION IS WHAT WE WERE TAUGHT..

WHEN WE OR ANYONE GETS A INFECTION OF THE BLADDER. OUR WHITE BLOOD CELLS RAISE.. CAUSE WHITE BLOOD CELLS TO GO TO A NEGATIVE 10.. AS FOR OUR DAUGHTER SHE GOES A NEGATIVE 40. WHICH CAUSE'S ECOLI OF THE BLADDER. OF COURSE IF NOT TREATED CAN CAUSE BLADDER, KIDNEY DAMAGE.

HOW YOU CAN TELL A CHILD THAT YOUNG HAS ON IS WHEN YOU CHANGE THEM THEIR DIAPERS ARE ALMOST DRY EVEN AFTER HOURS. YOU WILL ALSO SMELL A FOUL SMELL OR EVEN SEE SKIN OR BLOOD...

WHEN YOU REALLY NO THAT THE INFECTION WENT TO FAR IS WHEN THERE IS THE FOUL FISH SMELL AND THEIR GETTING MORE AND MORE DRY DIAPERS PLUS ALSO THAT FOLLOWS IS TEMPERTURE. AND I MEAN A HIGH TEMP...

NOW ECOLI MAY SOUND BAD IT CAN BE BUT THERE ARE WAYS TO OVER COME THIS BEFORE GETTING TO FAR.

EVEN THOUGH 16 MONTHS OLD... LOSTS OF WATER, CRANBERRY WATERED DOWN, IF YOU SEE THE PROBLEM IS NOT SOLVING GET TO THE PED AND HAVE THE DO A CULTURE. THEY WILL THEN HAVE TO WAIT 24 HOWS FOR SOMETHING TO APPEAR IN THE URINE. THEY WILL GIVE YOU A MED IN THE MEAN TIME.

MAKE SURE YOU GIVE AS TOLD TO AND WAIT FOR THE CULTURE TO COME BACK...THE DOCTORS WILL TELL YOU IF THE MEDS YOU HAVE WILL HELP OR IF YOU HAVE TO GET ANOTHER MED...

LET ME KNOW HOW ALL GOES.

If you feel that something is wrong take him in do not hesitate with uti's. My daughter is 2 1/2 and has had yeast infections and utis for the past 6 months or sooo. She was on antibiotics twice for uti's. I just recently took her to a urologist and she ended up having a poop problem which was causing her to get uti's. It just turned into this big old thing. If your son does not poop every day and only goes every couple of days he could have what my daughter has. what happens is that the rectum pushes on the bladder causing the bladder to get all excited in a way and when she pees she can fully empty her bladder which caused the uti. She is now on a stool softner to help and its doing wonderful.

what you should do is try to get urine sample from your son so they can try to test for a uti or they can catheterize him to get it, if the uti is not too bad he may not get a fever. but he is trying to tell you something so listen. my daughter said her peepee hurt all the time and i'd let it go for a little while and it got worse...i took her ot the doc a few times before she referred me to a urologist.

Sorry i wrote sooo much...but take him to a doctor just to be safe...hope i helped.

Hi, my 3 year old daughter had the same thing. I didn't find out until I stated to potty train that this is what it was. She would have strong urges to go and have to hurry then once she got to the potty only a drop of pee-pee would come out. I had her treated at the doctors with anti biotics.I think it won't hurt to have the doctors dip his urine. they can tell immediatly after they dip it and treat it. I always say I would rather be safe then sorry and it is possible he has an infection. if he doesn't no harm done and he will get to pee pee in a cup which I am sure will be interseting to say the least! Good luck and let me know how it turns out!! Happy Thanksgiving!

Better to be safe than sorry. He might be in real pain and you should try to help him. I suggest going to discovernutrition.com and getting D-mannose powder (called Clear Tract) to mix into his water or formula. It certainly won't hurt him (and he won't even notice because it is tasteless) and if he does have an infection, it should get rid of it. give him the infection dose first and then follow up for a week or so with the maintenance dosage just to be sure it is gone. if he stops telling you hurt, then you know he had an infection. If not, maybe he is just experimenting with the word and his body parts! good luck!
