Birthday Party Ideas for Two Very Picky Girls

I have two daughter who will turn 11 and 13 in a couple of months; I need some birthday party ideas. Both are on the edge where some party themes may be too "babyish" for them. We live out in the country so space is not a problem. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Both my girls had a High School Musical Red Carpet Sleepover Party this past Birthday and it was a major hit with all the girls. I got a couple of yards of cheap read material at Walmart's craft and material department for the red carpet. I placed it in my front drive way leading up to the door for when the girls arrived they arrived at the door like stars. I took double sided sticky carpet tape to keep it still on my driveway. Then i had star cut out (gold) with all the High School Musical stars on them on my front door in a circle and in the middle was a gold star with the Birthday Girls picture. Then I made a large sign that said Go Wildcats EHS and had the wildcat mascott picture on it. I made this with a large piece of cardboard and covered it with a red plactic tablecloth (stapled to the cardboard), then I painted the words on with white paint and printed out the wildcat pictures and stapled onto the sign. This made a good background for group pictures which we took and I printed them up and sent one home in a goodie bag for each girl. Then we had Red, White, Black and Silver balloons to decorate with along with Red and White streamers. I also had some blow up basket balls and some little soft baseballs around the house for decorations, since in HSM 1 it was a basketball theme and in 2 it was a baseball theme. We had both movies to watch last while in sleeping bags and I had gotten individual popcorn containers found at Party City for each girl to have popcorn in while watching the movies. For games we played a ball game with the blow up basketballs where 2 girls toss the ball to each other getting faster with each throw and whoever does not catch is out then another girl enters the game and does the same until only one girl is standing with the ball in her hands and she is the winner. We also played a cheerleading contest were the girls made up their own cheer and the best cheer had adults judging won. We also had kareoke with HSM songs and played put the lipstick on the mommy. I blind folded the girls and gave them some cheap dark lipstick and I put my self in front of their face and said reach out and put the lipstick on me. Keep wipes cloth by for you to wash off each time. Who ever got close to putting it on right was the winner, they really liked doing this to me. I also had cut outs of musical notes hanging from my ceiling that I cut out from black poster board with ribbon on the top to hang it with. Anyhow you get the idea. We also did a cat walk and took pictures on the red carpet.

Thanks,

T.

If they like girly things, I think a tea party could be a lot of fun. If they like to cook, have a baking party. Provide the aprons (party favor) and let them bake the birthay cake, or cookies, or whatever appeals to them.

Some kind of scavenger hunt could be fun...a hayride with a bonfire and s'mores at the end (fire hazard notwithstanding!)...camping out with tents (flashlight could be the party favor)..

You might find good ideas at familyfun.com

Good luck, and have fun!

My daughter is 8 and pretty girlie. I had a spa party for her at Hello Gorgeous in League City...it was great! Each girl changes into a Hello Gorgeous spa robe when they arrive, then they are wisked away for a day of pampering. They gave each girl a manicure, pedicure, facial and each made some sort of craft (my girls made bath salts). They provided EVERYTHING, including gift baskets for the girls (great stuff), all I had to do was show up. The table was set like up like an eloquent dinner with plastic champaign glasses and great decorations. They also had a punch fountain, which the kids really liked. There are different packages to choose from, but it is well worth the money...her party was the HIT of the school! I thought the costs was a little high, but when I finished the party I thought I got MORE than I paid for. Highly recommended! Good luck.

My husband is really good at these. We've done scavenger hunts with and without riddles, we've done tournament parties with sports and or games (like board type), we've also done a really fun party at the gymnastics place where they let your kids play on all the equipment.
It depends on how many kids you want to invite or how many will show up. Do you do the party jointly? If so you can do one of the above easily.
Imagine the fun if you let them video tape and or take pictures to prove the scavenger hunt, or even the other suggestion of the fashion show. We did this once with older kids (18) and got some really funny movies of making oatmeal at total stranger's homes and singing Happy Birthday to our son over the Walmart intercom...:)
Whatever you do have fun yourself.

We had a 13th birthday bash in Dec for my daughter and about 50 friends. No gifts of course.

We had the party at our country club with a couple of rooms reserved for the party. There was a DJ, food, cameras on every table and they danced the whole time. To encourage RSVP's because I had to give a # for attendees, we had a raffle and gave away 4 gift cards and then an IPOD shuffle. The raffle was a big hit and I had the RSVP's I needed!! All the kids were interacting with each other and we were so impressed with the good behavior we witnessed. I had an off duty officer there to assist with any issues and there were none. I am still glad I had the officer and I would do it again for safety purposes. The party was for 3 hrs or so. At the end, I collected the cameras, Target put all the pics on cd's for a reasonable price, I then loaded them on my computer and put them on shutterfly and emailed to the email addresses I had and I made cd's for other students that wanted one so they could have the pics as well. Everyone had a great time.

For her 12th bday, we booked a suite at a local fancy hotel. I stayed in 1 room, 5 girls stayed in the other room. They enjoyed the pool, we went to dinner, for late night we had room service desserts. The next morning, we had donuts, juice and milk.

Another thing we have done, more than once, was to book a limo. Go to each girl's house who was invited, personally pick them up. The driver took them around town and endedup at our house where we had a dinner and sleepover.

This summer my daughter attended a party at a friend's home. THey all got their hair and nails done. Then a professional photographer took them out for shots in the park. Afterwards, they had dinner at Cheesecake factory, saw the Hairspray movie and then had a sleepover. That mom gave all of us a cd with the pictures and that was a treat for everyone.

More recently, we were invited to a 13th birthday party to be held at the new hotel over in Grapevine "Wolf Lodge" with the water park and fun. I think that will be a lot of fun as well.

My daughter and her friends have never really been "into" American Girl but I have heard that a lot of girls love that.

At 5, we rented out Barnyard Buddies at Fairview Farms and catered it with Dickey's BBQ. The kids love the animals and haystacks. That was when my daughter had her heart set on being Jesse from Toy Story.

That is what we have most recently done and participated in. Have fun...we sure did and we got a lot of good memories. My daughter's birthday is Dec 27 and we always have her party on her day.

Why don't you have a Diva style sleep over? They could invite their closest girlfriends and do makeovers, facials, manicures, etc. Just provide them with a ton of make up and nail polish and let them go at it. Maybe you could even have a fashion show contest where you provide them with old clothing that is really out of style and a challenge them to see who can make the best outfit and walk down a fake runway to showcase each one. Or you could have a toilet paper fashion show where they each make themselves an outfit out of toilet paper and the winner gets a small prize.

Hmmmmm
well,
Are they girlie girls? If so, I love the idea of a spa/diva party
If they are tomboyish girls... you could have an old fashioned fair/picnic with relay races, etc. You could end the day with a hay ride?
GOOD LUCK
