Any ideas for a 5 yr old girls birthday party that isn't too expensive? Money has been tight lately and the holidays are coming up too.

What can I do next?

I had a movie party for my son's birthday a couple years ago. We invited about 5 other children over. There was food ready when they arrived. Chicken Little had just come out, so all the kids were given Chicken Little glasses. I bought movie theatre boxes of candy and small popcorn boxes and juice boxes. The kids had a great time with the movie day birthday party.

I agree that you can have a great time at home with friends. I recommend the no more friends than her age, and remember it might be a good idea to make it an even number of guests so no one feels left out.

Start with what she likes, for a water lover, you can do an aquarium theme, whale shaped cake (you can find the pattern online) blue jello with swedish fish in it, and games with a twist toward fish (find games online and just add blue balloons, or paint a cardboard box to be an aquarium, etc.

I love the dress up clothes for a tea party.

Instead of games, you can do a craft table and they can make foam crafts out of stuff you buy at Michaels, or you can get all kinds of craft ideas, this will keep them busy for about 45 min, maybe.

I know this isn't too specific, but if you tell us what she is into, us mommies can probably come up with some pretty cool games and decorations for cheap.

You may wnat to do a mid day party or late evening so that you don't have to really "feed" them, this will cut down on the cost a lot. Or, if you do a tea party, you can make some little sandwiches with the crust cut off. If you don't have a tea set for her, this can be her present from you.

Hi A.,
When my oldest turned 5 I let her invite 5 friends over for a "Dress-up" tea party. I made the invitations to look like a tea cups(2 pieces of card stock glued around the sides and bottom with the top open so you can put the "tea bag" in) and took the strings off real tea bags and glued them to little squares that looked like tea bags. On that you write all the party information, Time, place etc...
Tell them to "Dress For Tea" and have a bin of dress up hats and boas and frilly girl stuff like that, so they can supplement their favorite dresses I'm sure they will ware. Make little pinwheel or finger sandwiches. Chocolate covered strawberries, tea cookies and Pink cupcakes with sprinkles. I filled my ceramic tea pot with apple juice and you can get cute tea cups at different discount stores.
Or if you get plain white ones and some ceramic paint you can let them paint their own and take them home as a keepsake.( That gives you an activity and a party favor )Just be sure to ask their parents to send them with a smock or over sized shirt to cover up their pretty dresses.
Just remember you don't have to spend alot to have a great party!
Good Luck

Take 2 or 3 of her best buddies and go to the movies! Find an inexpensive smaller local theater (there is a great one in Howell) or hit up a matinee at a regular theater. After the movie, you could do pizza at home & cupcakes or some such easy thing. Good luck

They love Pump It Up! I've used Auburn Hills. They supply the room, pizza, salad, drinks, and help. It's very controlled and easy. It costs about $400. They also like princess theme or mobile petting zoo parties, but those are more expensive. Have fun!

How about a small tea party for a few of her friends. They could all dress up and wear hats. Maybe make some little cupcakes and cookies for them. I'm sure they'd love that!!

I have all boys so I don't know how helpful this will be. What about a tea party at your home. The girls can get all dressed up before they come, or you could provide dress up clothes for them?

My cousin and her 7 year old daughter were over a few months ago and in an effort to entertain her I pulled out some old bridesmaid/prom dresses (very old stuff!!) and my grandmothers costume jewely. She had a ball with it, and was occupied for a couple of hours. Just a thought. Have fun.

Princess or Hanna montans and go to the dollar stores to make the decision. By everything from the dollars store. You only need in vites and thank you notes maybe party hates. Or if your creative and she likes designing things go to micheals or staples and get thick 20 lb paper and some different shapped foams and crayons markers and glitter glue and make your own. You can even get like a pair of siccors that will cut a design on your paper. So you can make differnt shapped cuts. Think and be creative. Have fun sounds like a great thing to do. Oh ya make the cake your self its cheaper.

Hi A...

My daughter turned 5 in Sept. and I held a sleepover for 4 of her friends. We painted nails, watched movies, had a dance party, put make up on, played games...and just had a blast...

It was cheap..and the girls loved it..

We are in the works of planning my 5 year olds party as well. Since most of her friends are into Webkinz, we decided to theme hers after that.
We'll have a "Wheel of Wow" where the kids can spin a spinner and get a prize... etc.
My best advice, is go for a theme that she loves, and base games, decorations and goodies around that.
Save money by picking up everything from dollar stores (plates, napkins, etc.) even goodies and bags... they have a lot of Disney goodies at dollar stores!
Have your daughter decorate her friends goody bags herself, cut out shapes (hearts, stars) and have her stick them on and put her friends name on them.
Look online for great kids games, that are, of course, free!

We have done HUGE parties ever since my 17 yr old was young... and we have never spent a lot of money... and ALL the kids have loved them!!! hey can't wait to see what we come up with every year!

I have a ton of ideas for you if you pick a theme, and can make some great suggestions if you need....

My friend just gave me a great idaea. I have a 6year old who has been begging to scrapbook. I do NOT do this so she has been asking me to have one of my friends who do help her. My friend suggested calling another person we know who sells for Creative Memories to host a party. We would have each child pay around $15.00 for product and let them scrap away. I may do this over Christmas break for my daughter.

I did a dress-up-in-your-mom's clothes tea party for one of my daughters' 6th birthday. It was very fun and is warmly remembered. I cut sandwiches with cookie cutters, served pink punch for tea, used cute little cups and plates etc.

I am a mom of 3 boys, so I don't have any ideas, but I wanted to say 'bless you' for NOT having a carnival for a bday party!

I am so fed up with moms trying to 'one up' the next mom with bday parties. Sorry but what are these moms teaching their kids?!?!?!

If you don't have the book Pinkalicious, get it from the library or amazon (don't pay full price, that's one gift already if you buy it) Bake pink cupcakes with pink frosting. Have the girls (not too many:) )and read the story to them as they eat their cupcakes. Then they can sit and make a wand like the girl in the book. I used shishkabob sticks and tookt he point off and got a star pattern off the internet and pretraced them on some thin cardboard I already had and let the girls but them (they needed help) and decorate them with glitter and ribbon and then they went off and played and got to take the wand home with them. easy, quick and cute. But then again I don't do the whole huge party thing
