Hi. We are having a birthday party for my son who just turned 5. There will be 11 kids (boys & girls) there ranging in ages from 2 1/2 - 11 (4 of the kids are boys all about 5 yrs old). Does anyone have any simple birthday party games to play that won't bore the 11 year old but not too complex for the 2 1/2 year old? I'm not looking for anything fancy or alot of prep work, just some simple, traditional birthday party games.

Thanks for your help!

Pin the tail on the donkey or whatever goes with your theme (we will be putting the face on thomas for my sons birthday), pinata, and maybe some kind of craft that could be adapted for the older and younger ones.

I've watched at other birthday parties to see what kids gravitate towards, what they don't like and what they tend to do. Based on this, for our birthday parties, we set up about four "stations" that kids can go to and from at will. Two that were big hits were a bubble blowing station. I have some larger wands and make buble solution out of dishwash soap, water and baking soda (you can find it on the interrnet) so that's cheap. The other one was a bean bag toss station. Let the game go however the kids set it up - they have more fun that way. (one rule is not to throw AT other kids!) If you do something outside, sidewalk chalk or a swing with an adult to push are great as well.

One other thing, we didn't do prizes but rather just let the kids go back and forth. That way, nobody was upset they got edged out of winning a prize and we gave everyone something as they left.

Looking forward to more ideas from your post for future parties!

A friend of mine had a party where they used toothpicks and a variety of marshmallows to build creatures/people/towers, etc. with them (and they were tasty to boot!).
Sack races in pillow cases could be fun too.

I've got five acion packed letters for you: L-I-M-B-O.

We did this at my son's 5 yo party and the kids would have limbo'd the ENTIRE time! Download The Limbo Song, find a stick and you're good to go! (Party City sells an inflatable limbo stick for about $2.) Have fun! (Limbo lower now....)

here are some fun ones. I had kids from 3-13 and they all loved them
clothespin drop http://www.ehow.com/how_8623_play-clothespin-drop.html
another game is to get a bucket, fill with water and put a shot glass in it. Then try to drop pennies from out of the water, into the shot glass.
Pin the tail on the whatever your theme is. Another is to have buckets and then throw a ball into the first, then the second, then on and on . It used to be played on Bozo, my am I dating myself, lol. The kids stand back and those younger can stand closer.

You also can do a whole in one and play golf. Water ballons into a target or just a water balloon catch with each other, last team with the balloon wins. I would have an adult with the younger kids. Egg on spoon relay.

We had about 6 games. We gave the kids a goody bag and after completeing each game, we gave them a prize. By the end, they had filled their own goody bag to take home. We ended it with a pinata, youngest kid swings first.

what about the egg and spoon race - use your plastic easter eggs and plastic spoons. Freeze dance is also fun - play music and they dance - stop music and they stop - whoever doesn't stop is out of the game. This is always a fun game. Good luck!
