Birthday Party Favors - San Francisco,CA

I am trying to figure out a cool birthday party favor for my son's 1st birthday. I was wondering if anyone would like to share ideas that they've used or seen. I'm trying to save money so something that wouldn't cost too much would be great. If it is expensive, just share it anyways, maybe I can figure a way to cut down on the price. I was leaning towards a food item but anything is good right about now.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Since this birthday will be having mostly adults, I just ended up getting a cookie in the shape of 1 and then had labels made on them with his name. When he does get older and there are more kids at the party, I will definitely take the suggestions that were given to me.

Hi C.
well one piece of advice I will give is this.. remember, the one year olds won't remember the bday favors, so you are basically doing this for the adults..... in other words, since the kids won't recall or really care at this young age (presuming you are inviting other young children) then keep it very simple... Sandy listed some good ideas.. and you could also do your goodie bags.. (you can buy them at a party store) they have all kinds of themes... SAVE the big time parties and expense for when the child is older and can remember and appreciate... what I found with my son who is now 6 1/2 is that all parties BEFORE the 6th one really were no big deal, oh sure he had fun as did the adults, but it's when they are older that they want to have themed parties with favors and invite their friends. however, if you do decide to do favors.. make them edible. unless it's your own child and or the guests are close to you, I don't think many people keep all the favors they get.. you could bake some decorative cookies (diff shapes with cookie cutters) and put those in a goodie bag. even add a toy or two. but again.... don't go overboard.. some kids and family have sooooooooooo much clutter in their homes, I really think most will lose track of the favors anyway.. I don't mean to down your idea, but if you were to ask your friends and family a year from now, hey do you remember the favors from my child's bday party? they would probably all say, huh..oh yeah.. huh.. yes those were great... and then scratch their heads trying feverishly to remember what they were. :)

my husband's cousin ordered shortbread cookies shaped like a number "1" and put address-label sized stickers with their child's pic and a "thanks for attending my first birthday" on the wrapper

Some favor ideas for ya:

Plastic sand buckets and shovels filled with some treats in baggies or bubbles is fun.

99 cent stores have a lot of toys like cars, velcro ball/catcher mitts, frisbees. You could do an outdoor fun favor or an art bundle with crayons, coloring books, construction paper.

Daiso (near Serramonte Shopping Mall) has lots of toys for one dollar each. Target also has a section with one dollar items.

If you like crafts, you could get a bunch of plain white t-shirts and have the kids decorate them with fabric-safe, non-toxic finger paints, hand prints, etc.

lastly, Oriental Trading COmpany (catalog and website) has lots of fun favors that aren't too expensive. You probably just have to assemble them. Hope these ideas help.

My daughter came home w/ a CD of 'the birthday girl's' favorite songs. The mom of the birthday girl burned a bunch of CDs and printed out a niced CD cover with 'happy b-day' type themes. It was really great.

Another bday party my daughter went to the mother requested that no one bring gifts for the birthday girl, but instead everyone bring a new book, then at the end of the party there was a book exchange.
