If you've happen to have seen both, which do you think is a better camera for a 3 year old: Fisher price kid tough digital camera or the vtech kidizoom digital camera. BTW, I have a Mac not a PC if that makes a difference as far as downloading apps or uploading pics.
We had one briefly. it broke the first day and we didn't replace it since the picture size and quality wasn't any good. Maybe a discounted regular camera when your child is a little older will work out. Way back when all cameras had film I got my first camera when I turned 11 and used it with no problem for several years. I could see a slightly younger child being responsible with adult help.
We have a FP kids camera. I'll agree w/ Jen. The pic quality is exceptionally poor. It might be worth it if it keeps your child away from your camera, but not if they really want to make art.
We tried the kiddie ones, and it was a waste unless you are planning on it just being a toy for pretend play. If you want one you can download the pictures from and have anything usable from, than you will have to wait until the child is ready for a real camera.
We had a Vtech kids camera and then a 'kids' video camcorder. Both are awful. The picture quality is horrible as well as the lighting. If you are going to buy a camera I highly recommend you buy a full function point and shoot camera and be done.
My son who is 5 has the Fisher price one and its ok i dont even download the pictures anymore because the quality is so bad. so if you are looking for something that you can use the pictures i would stay away from the FP one.
As others have said... "kid's" cameras tend to break easily and to have lousy image quality (not like our film kids cameras of the 80s and prior, which were fine and lasted for years).
It's worth it (imho) to wait for black friday sales and order an adult camera online. I got my then 3yo a Nikon Coolpix (6mp, was top of the line for pocket cameras at the time) for $50. It was ordinarilly 200-300. It's been used almost daily for 5 years and is still holding up GREAT.
We have the kidizoom mid level camera, around $60 or 70 bucks. I don't remember the exact name or price. It is NOT the $30-40 one you usually see in stores, nor the fancy $120 version. We all LOVE the camera. We bought it for my son when he was 2 1/2 as an early bday present. He figured it out right away. He can turn it on, take pictures & play the games (which he loves to do). With a little help he can take video. It runs on regular batteries & has an sd card. We have a mac & a pc you can download to either right from the card. I have read that the software doesn't work with the mac, so you can't plug the camera directly into the computer.
I highly recommend this camera. I think the picture quality is pretty good. My now 3 year old can use it completely independently of me. My 18 month old can also turn it on and off & take pictures. He has also dropped it a few times & it is still working fine.
I bought ours from amazon & will be buying another for the 18 month old for his 2nd bday, so they don't fight over it any more.
We have the VTech for our 3 year old and he loves it. It works great and he can take both pictures and videos. Unfortunately the camera itself isn't as clear as your regular Canon/Sony/etc camera, but what do you expect for kids? I'm not sure about downloading pictures from the camera. The VTech came with a USB cord, but we really haven't downloaded any of the pictures. They weren't that great (clarity-wise) and our kids just love to take the pictures and look through them on the screen. We haven't wanted to print any out.
