My baby just turned 1, and he never really took a bottle anyway, but regardless it's time to clear out the cabinets and put away all bottle paraphanalia. What is the best way to store plastic bottles and silicone/latex nipples for longer term storage? We don't know for sure if we will have another baby or not, but if we do it will be at least 1-2 years, so they will be put away for awhile. With my oldest, I think we just stuck the bottles,etc. in a bag and shoved it in the back of one of our cabinets. When I pulled them out, some of the nipples had some yellow discolorations and even a residue built up on them (oxidation?? I don't know...). I wanted to avoid that if possible. I really don't have the cabinet space, and I was thinking about sticking them in the attic but didn't know about heat, cold, etc. or if I should seal them in a bag/box, or what. Any advice?
I agree toss the old nipples. As far as storing the bottles I would probably seal them each in there own bag and then place them in in a container of some sort. Don't store them in the attic it gets way to hot up there. Maybe find a closet shelf you can put them on.
Well, I always save the plastic parts, and get rid of the nipples. There is too much chance of wear and tear, and like was mentioned, bacteria etc. Even the silicone ones become weak, and the company actually recommends replacing nipples every 3 months or so. I did not do that, but I never save nipples. They are not terribly expensive to replace though, and I would just rather be safe than sorry. ~A.~
Nix the OLD nipples as they may have small teeth tears or cracks and bacteria inside that you can't see and replace later for the new baby... Keep the plastic bottle part :)
I stored the nipples I had from baby 1 in the cabinet with the bottles. They were silicon and I now use them for baby 2. I don't think you can keep nipples that aren't silicon. I kept my first son's paci's, too. I just stored them in a plastic container.
