Hi Moms! I want to introduce my son to the idea of going potty! I have no idea where to begin! I guess my first question is, what is the best toilet to buy for a boy. There are so many choices out there. You guys have the experience, so I would love to know what you think! Thanks!

Hi Sara, I trained my son and my daughter on the little toilet seat that fits right over the regular toilet. I just say keep it simple, let him go on it a few times and when he seems comfortable and knows what it's for then put the cotton undies on him. That's how I did it and it worked. I don't remember how long it took with my son, maybe a few days but my daughter caught on like the first day with a few accidents the first week. I just told her she's a big girl so no more diapers. Good luck in this new adventure!

I got the Baby Bjorn for my son. It worked really well cause it as higher in the front. But he only used it for a little while cause he wanted to stand. So we just ended up getting a stool and used the big potty. Now he's tall enough, on his toes, that he doesn't need the stool.

I had to try a couple of pottys because of how my son peed, it would just end up all over the floor no matter how hard he tried.
There is a really cute frog potty (sorry don't know the brand) at baby depot in Burlington that works the best of any thing I've found, it has a nice wide seat with a safe high front. And it is cheap too!

Next month there is a potty training class at http://www.inspiredabq.com; pros and cons of different types of seats are discussed. One idea is to let your son go with you to pick it out so he is a part of it and can get excited about it.
