We have three girls (6, 8 and 12) and wanted some feedback as to which Hawaiian Island would be the best one to take them to. This will be there first trip there.

What can I do next?

Oahu does have the Polynesian Cultural Center and other attractions, but you'll find that Honolulu is a big city like on the mainland (and Waikiki Beach is teeny-tiny). I'm glad my parents took me there as a kid, but the island I choose to go back to is Maui. There are plenty of activities and it's beautiful there. Your girls could snorkel, parasail, enjoy the beach, go to shows, among other activities. TripAdvisor.com is a great resource for planning.

Have fun!

Our family usually rents a house on the beach in Kailua (on Oahu). You get the benefit of one of the best beaches in the world (regularly ranked in the top 10), but it's close enough to Honolulu so you can go in for the day to the Aquarium or Zoo (both are wonderful) or spend a day at one of the nicest malls in America if you want a break from the beach. There's also Waimea Falls, the Polynesian Cultural Center, as mentioned below, North Shore, and lots of fantastic places to eat. We've spent a tiny bit of time on Maui and the Big Island, but for us, it gets a bit boring after a while. We prefer having the best of both worlds - big city attractions as well as remote beach access. But either way, you're gonna have a great time - Hawaii is awesome!

Where ever you go it will be fantastic. We LOVE Hawaii.

Our favorite is Maui. We usually stay in Ka'anapoli or Kapula and we spend a lot of time in La'hania. La'hania has a great luau (book early), we love to go out on the little dingy's to whale watch....the whales get amazingly close and are such a sight to see. We are usually there in March for Spring Break... I am not sure of the time frame when the whales are coming through. Shopping is good in La'hania.

We fly direct shot from DFW to Maui (American Air), usually save up points to upgrade to first class both ways (worth it, believe me!!), we take the 10pm flight direct back to DFW, sleep and arrive around 5::30am.

Since it is a long trip, we do book Allen Limo (town car) to take us to the airport and then on the way home, when you are tired and sleepy, they are there at baggage to get bags and take you home. Worth the $$.

Have a great time, Hawaii is wonderful, I always hate leaving there but I love my home in TX.
