You said you don't mind driving, so go out to Lavon and try Big Daddy's. It's great!! It's at the intersection of 78 and 205. I promise you won't be disappointed. My bbq snob of a dad even loves it!
Hi Moms, we have our entire family coming to visit for the 4th of July. Some are coming from San Diago and others from Florida. They have requested for us to take them out for some good Bar-B-Que. We have only lived here just short a year and we haven't found that perfect place yet. We live in Plano but wouldn't mind driving if it was really GOOD:) Can you help us to remind them how good Texas food is??

I gotta agree with Bone Daddy's (75 and Spring Valley). I used to live in Florida and the one thing I've been disappointed about with the BBQ places around here are the baked beans. Baked beans should have molasses in them and should be a little sweet tasting (my opinion and what I'm used to coming from Flordia). Most of BBQ places around here call them baked beans, but they are just beans and are quite tasteless. Bone Daddy's knows how to make them right.
Rudys BBQ in Denton is really good, also Randy Whites in Frisco.. my personal fav is Rudys
We like Dickey's and Bone Daddy's.
Enjoy!
I agree that Rudy's is the best BBQ and they just opened one in Frisco. Its VERY family friendly, you order at the counter and they have big tables with plenty of room for everybody, Their BBQ is SMOKED and SO yummy. They even smoke the baked potatos. YUM!!!!! You can send your family home with a bottle of their BBQ sauce too.

I personally love Marshall's Barbecue in Farmers Branch at Josey and Valley View and there is also one in Carrollton at Josey and Rosemeade. The first being my favorite. This place has been around for over 40 years, I'd say. I went to it often as a child and still enjoy their meats and side items.
There's a place in Arlington called David's Barbeque. I grew up eating it and it is the best I have found. It would be a little far to go, but if you might be over that way for a Rangers game or Six Flags then you might want to check it out. They are open Tues. - Sat. and they are located on Park Row in between Bowen and Fielder in a shopping center on the south side of Park Row. Here's the address:

Good luck with your search!
Ditto to the Rudy's in Frisco...LOVE IT!
In Dallas there is a place called Eddie Dean's Barbque. They are the best, it is really good, they have even catered for President Bush for the White House.
You can't beat Sonny Bryan's. There's one in Richardson at Campbell and Mimosa near the Coit and Campbell intersection. They offer great take-out and are very friendly.
We LOVE Spring Creek BBQ!!!! It has quickly become our family favorite. I would suggest trying out any place before you bring the whole family, you would be the best judge on what they may like!!
I vote for Randy White's in Frisco (north of Main/720 on Preston).
My boyfriend and I love Dickey's (Rowlett or Denton), my brother loves Soulman's in Rockwall.
I say Rudy's all the way! Good Luck!!! And I hope you have a great visit with your family!
