Bed Wetting, When Does It Stop???

My Son is an extremely deep sleeper and has had trouble with wetting the bed for a long time now. We have tried a lot of things: Waking him up at midnight every night, limiting drinks before bed and finally have resorted to the Dri-Sleeper beeper. He is doing better with the beeper.

Here is my real problem: My daughter who is almost 4 has never had any problems. She potty trained before she was 2 and never has been prone to accidents during the day or at night. In the past 2 weeks she has been peeing her pants A LOT. There is no reason at all just doesn't go into the bathroom. This past week she has peed in her bed twice.

I am at a loss. I can't figure out how to make this stop. With my son, my husband and I have been extremely understanding because we know how hard he sleeps and that he really has no control when he is that sound asleep. My daughter is not that sound of a sleeper and this is so unlike her.

I would really appreciate any suggestions about how to get my kids through this stage.

Grace and Peace

My son is 11 and has the same problem. I'll look into the Dry sleeper beeper to see how it goes. I also have a 5 yr old daughter who's never experienced any bedwetting problems. She wakes up alone and goes. If this has changed for your daughter look into her everyday rutine to see if anything has changed. Is she more tired. Is she having difficulty at school or with a playmate. All these might have something to do with it. ALso you may try asking her why she thinks its happening.

I wish you luck and don't worry too much its just be a stage. Keep your patience with her as you do with your son.

I am sure others will give you all the other advice, but also, please be sure to check for pinworms. They are contagious and your daughter may have gotten them from your son and that can cause the problem.

I seriously do understand your problem. I have a step son that is 7 and still pees in bed. He is also a very deep sleeper. I do not have much control over his peeing habit because he only spends 2 weekends in a month with us and the rest of his time with his mother.
He is on a Sleeper beeper now and even that does not work. He sleeps through it! I wish there was a way he could spend more time with us so we can put him on a routine, but it's impossible because his mother would not allow it, and I do understand. I tried to bring up the subject with her once but she seemed a bit offended and made up an excuse that he is not well. I do not want to insist, because I do not want to risk messing our relationship for the kid's sake. They have been through enough already.

With your daughter's case, I would suggest you speak to her about it and find out if she has developed any new fears. She could have had a dream or an experience that makes her scared to go to the bathroom alone in the dark. Maybe you could try to leave the lights on at night and make sure her passage to the toilet is illuminated. Just to see if it helps and then atleast you will find out if it's fear of darkness that is causing her new peeing in bed habit.

If that is not the case and you find another solution, please share it with me. I could do with a lot of help myself.

God bless you and your family and I hope with God's grace we all find a solution.

Hi C.,

I know this may sound like a strange suggestion if you aren't familiar with it but chiropractic helps many children that have bed wetting problems. The reason is that in many kids there is pressure on the nerve that controls the bladder so they aren't getting the signals they need while sleeping to wake up and go to the bathroom. It's like talking on a cell phone with bad reception, you can't get what the other person is saying, same thing with pressure on the nerve. Chiropractic helps release the pressure and it usually doesn't take long for them to stop wetting the bed. It may be an out of the box suggestion for many but at times that's what we need because staying in the box keeps us stuck. I've been there!

All the best to you,
C.

Hi C.,
I struggled with 2 bedwetting kids for years. I tried everything I could think of, but in the end, nothing I tried worked. I just had to wait it out. That was years ago.

Now, I belong to an online Shaklee discussion group. The bedwetting question comes up from time to time. Here are a few of the suggestions from others who have solutions . . .

DIET:
It's best to eat natural and organic foods. Stop eating junk food and highly processed food. That’s good advice for all of us.

FOOD ALLERGIES:
Try eliminating – or seriously limiting – dairy and wheat. That’s not easy when you think about the typical American diet. But, if dairy and wheat are the problem, it would be well worth the challenge.

B COMPLEX:
The B vitamins are water soluble and need to be replenished every day. And you need a very good quality vitamin. I recommend Shaklee B Complex. www.shaklee.net/star/product/20198 . Synthetic vitamins just don’t work.

MAGNESIUM:
There were a few posts on my discussion group suggesting Shaklee magnesium helps bedwetters. www.shaklee.net/star/product/20126

Good luck. I remember how frustrating this issue was for us. If I can help you in any way, please let me know.

Maybe she's modeling her brother, thinking it's age appropriate. I would suggest getting her "baby diapers" to wear to bed, with pretty pants to wear when she's ready.
