Beco Baby Carrier

My daughter is 14 months and 21 pounds. She's pretty much outgrown her Baby Bjorn. I'm thinking about getting a Beco Baby Carrier but don't want to invest $140 in it unless I can get at least a years use out if it. I'd love to hear from other moms/dads who've used the Beco. How long were you able to use it to carry your child? Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all the responses. The Ergo was about $50 cheaper (not as "pretty" but my husband will probably appreciate not wearing a baby carrier with a floral pattern) and came so highly recommended that I ordered one this morning. I looked at the patapum as well but decided to go with the Ergo because it can be worn front, back, or hip while the patapum is back only. Thanks for recommending thebabywearer.com -- that was very helpful as well.

I have used the Ergo baby carrier to carry my 23-month-old since he was a baby, but I have also used it to carry my 3 1/2-year-old for more than a mile on my back. I think it is so comfortable and makes getting around so much easier. I have used both the front and back carries with it. Also, I think I only paid $92 (which seemed like a ton at the time, but is oh-so-worth it!).

Becos are beautiful but $$$. I have a patapum that i love which was quite a bit cheaper and I like it better than the ergo personally.

I also love my Kozy Mei Tei carrier. The weight limit on that is like 150 pounds!

I have an ergo - not a beco - but they're similar and I've heard great things about the beco. I use my ergo on my 19-month old son who is 24 lbs. I've used it on my 16 month old nephew who is 32 lbs, too. Both ride comfortably.

Technically the weight limit on the ergo is 40 lbs (same as beco I think?) - I love it because my son at this point is very busy - sometimes he wants to ride but lots of times he wants to get out and walk. This is so easy to get on/off that we can do that with no problem. (When he was very small we mostly used a wrap-type sling, but that required tying).

The limiting factor for this carrier for me is that I am now 4 months pregnant and I can tell it's going to get uncomfortable to have anything around my waist soon. But I don't really think there are *any* baby carriers that avoid that problem really.

When I was looking at carriers I read a lot of reviews at www.thebabywearer.com - very helpful website.

We have an Ergo (you can get it online at ergobaby.com or at be by baby in the city) that we LOVE! Our daughter started in it around 6 months, but we used it to tote my nephew around this summer (he was 2 1/2 at the time). You can wear it front, back OR hip, it's sturdy, comfy and good through 40 lbs (or so). It retails for about $100, so it's slightly cheaper than what you're looking at and since it's not on any kind of frame, it squishes down into almost nothing, which is handy.

Good luck!

I don't have a Beco but I love my Ergo. It's about $100 I think or close to it. So it's a little cheaper. I haven't used it in a while as I'm 35 weeks pregnant but I used it through my first trimester and my daughter was already about 25 lbs then. I look forward to using it with my new baby and my daughter again.

God Bless, sounds like she's growing beautifully. If she is not walking already, she should soon be on her way. Remember that kids grow and they grow fast. If you are worried about the investment of a baby carrier, you will have to judge this one according to your own needs and the growth rate of your child.
