I'm looking for a bath ring/seat to use with my 5 1/2 month old in our "big" tub. He has outgrown the newborn tub. I'd like to hear your experience with a bath ring as well as what brand/model you recommend (or don't recommend) and why. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to all who responded. We bought an inflatable tub that fits inside our "big tub." We love it and more importantly my son transitioned into it without any problems. In fact, his father taught him how to splash and he has a blast splashing & playing during bath time. Thanks again!

I'm not crazy about those seats, but I love the spongy bath mat thingy, I found it at BRU, I know it's available all over. I start using it when the baby's still lying down, then they can sit on it as they get bigger but are still a little tipsy. It's like a pillow, only filled with little quick drying bead type things.

Have you thought about forgoing the seat and transitioning to big tub with a sticky mat at the bottom? We did that when we took a vacation and knew our daughter was ready (able to get herself to sit up on her own), and it was super easy. We purchased a suction cup tub mat from Ikea in their kids' department. Then we just filled the tub enough for her to be able to splash a little and got a couple floaty toys. Of course her father and I watch over her like hawks when we bathe her--so having four arms available in case she tipped was reassuring. But, she never tipped.

We actually had a seat, but had to try something different when we were on vacation--and never ended up using it. Oh how the time flies...she's 19 months now and prefers showers!!

Hi,

About two months ago, I read a lot of reviews on different bath seats, and found three general complaints about them. First, not all seats appeared to be compatible with all bathtubs. Second, parents seemed to have trouble maneuvering a slippery baby in and out of the seat. Third, cleaning diaper parts was challenging.

I ended up choosing the "Inflatable Safety Duck Tub" by Munchkin (http://www.munchkin.com/products/detail.html?section=prod.... We started using it when our daughter was a little over 6 months and had graduated from the infant tub and the kitchen sink. At 8 months, we're still enjoying it. Most of the time, she lounges with her head on the duck's tail and I can use both hands to wash her. If she starts to tip to the side while sitting up, she bounces against the inflatable side of the tub and doesn't bonk her head on hard surfaces.

The bottom of the inside of the tub has little ridges to keep baby from sliding around. The bottom of the outside of the tub has a suction cup for hanging the tub to dry after use. As a bonus, the duck quacks when its bill is squeezed--great for distracting a baby who keeps trying to grab the shampoo bottle.

When my daughter got too big for the infant tub, we decided on an inflatable tub that fits inside your "big tub." And we LOVE it! The sides provide padding, the bottom surface is less slippery than a tub, and it takes a lot less water to fill it up. Oh, and we set it toward the back of our big tub, so there's no worry about her hitting her head on the faucet. They are reasonably priced (about $15) and could be deflated for travel (although we haven't done that).

Here's one like the one I bought:

Hope this helps :)

My mom used to wash me in the kitchen sink until I was big enough for the big tub (around age 3 or 4).

Hi,
I used with both my kids. The safety first brand. I bought it at baby r us (www.babiesrus.com) and I think they sell it at Target. It has suction cups on the bottom and it is a blue seat that is circle shaped all the way around with bright toy rings on the front of the seat. When I bought it 4 years ago it was around 12 dollars.. I used this seat until my daughters were both a little over two b/c the children can not tip forward and hit the faucet. My friend her girl was 2 years old and she was out of the bath seat and hit her front teeth on the faucet chiping them. The doctor told me that was a comon injury.
Best of luck,
Lenc

Hi,

I don't know if this is possible for you but we found it was just easier for one of us to be the "bath ring" and it was so much more fun. We would have a bath with our daughter in our big tub from the time she was 2 months old to about 15 months. It was much nicer and safer and it was easy to get everyone clean.

We used an inflatable baby tub and it was great. My son loved it. We left it in our guest bathroom so unless someone was visiting us we did not need to take it out. You can find it at One Step Ahead- here is the link http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId...

I think our seat is by safety 1st, it's white and blue and has an arm that attaches to the side of the tub, holding the seat in place and providing a place for your elbows when kneeling next to the tub. I got a new one on craigslist for cheap, we love it and so does our 7 month old!
