I know the car seats expire and there is a date on them, but what about the bases that hook into the car. Do they also expire?

What can I do next?

I'm not sure. The seat expires because of the straps (I think). Call the manufacturer.

Apparently yes (found out at the hospital when they were installing my seat)...they had some sheet and were like that has expired. Awesome

The plastic in the car seat becomes weak over time and that is why car seats expire. So yes, your base expires also.

I was told by one of the owners of a Kids Closet franchise that the part of the car seat that expires after 5 years is the fire retardant coating on the fabric. Since the base does not have fabric it does not expire. I looked on the car seats I have and there is only an expiration date on the main car seat with the fabric-- not the base. That is why at these kids resales you can only sell the car seat before the 5 year expiration date but you can sell the base anytime.
