Hi A.,
My 3 year old started in December and they don't do Ballet per se, they do "Creative Movement." This is a combination of ballet, jazz and tumbling. She loves it. She usually doesn't take to new places easily and the first day of class, she looked at me and said "see you later" and just joined her class. She is enrolled at the Dianne Cole Johnson School Of Dance. Their address and phone number are 3044 Old Denton Road, Carrollton, TX 75007, ###-###-####. They have a website, but I don't have it handy. She loves it.

My daughter takes pre-ballet/tap at The Dance Movement in Allen. It's been great so far--we just started about 6 weeks ago. They offer classes starting at age 3 and even do a recital once a year. Their # is ###-###-#### and their website is thedancemovement.com. Good luck!

I do not believe that 3 is too young to start. I was 2 1/2 when i started dancing and gymnastics. The younger you are when you start the better you are when you get older. Good luck!

I am not sure there is a "too young" to start. I was 2 1/2 when I started tumbling, ballet, and gymnastics. It is all up to the child and if they can pay attention, and the teacher if they can handle little ones.

I dont' know where you can go, but I encourage you to put her in classes. Good attitudes about exercise can never start too early.

I have a 3 yr old who started a few months ago and loves it. They seem to all accept them at age 3. We started in December and the class had begun in September so she has been playing catch up. I'm not sure about all ballet schools but all the ones I know of are practicing for their spring recitals now and not taking on new students. New classes start in September so I would say wait until then or try one of the summer camps or sessions. I found the local rec centers offered classes in the $30-40 range and ballet schools seemed to be $50-60 per month. Hope this helps.

I started my daughter at 2 1/2 and I taught dance throughout college. It is not too young. The best advise I can give you is go to the phone book and call some studios around you. Ask when there recital is and go to it. It is the best way to see what they learn and what the studio is like. If you don't like the recital costumes (revealing) then you know before you spend all year there. If the teacher is standing on the stage with the younger students then they have low expectations of the students. We are currently attending Dancin' Feet in Lewisville and have been very happy. They also don't expect you to be in the recital which honestly is probably too late at this point in the year because costumes have already been ordered. A combination class approximately 45 minutes is what you should look for. Tap and Ballet. Hope this is helpful.

I also recommend doing a rec center class for a "first" class. We enrolled my daughter soon after she turned 3, b/c she loved dressing up and twirling, wearing leotards....well, she did not love the instructional setting. Your daughter may be totally different, I know there were a lot of 3 yolds really enjoying it. Most studios offer a trial class, but this wasn't enough for us. The rec centers offer 6 week sessions...Hindsight, we should have started there before we committed and paid recital fees, etc. The recital was a lot of fun, and I really recommend The Dance Movement too--they were fabulous (it was just not for my child).

Hi A., My daughter took ballet classes at Talent N More in Richardson (by Richardson Square Mall). They are not competetive and have reasonable rates. We decided to change over to Canyon Creek Gymnastics when she turned four. She has fun no matter what!!

She is not too young for ballet. It's actually a great time to teach her. I wish I would have started my little girl that early. I put her in drill team when she was five because she doesn't like really any outdoor activities. She hated it at first but loves it now and can't wait for it to start again. Plus she will meet new friends in ballet class as well as the physical activity. It will be good for her.

Check out your local rec center. It's less expensive than a dance school. We just finished a session in Carrollton and were very happy with it.

A.,
CPAC Hathaway is a ballet school in the shops at Legacy. It focuses on true ballet. We moved here in October and started going there, coming from a Russian Ballet Company in Mandeville, LA. My daughter is very happy there. They start children as young as 2 years, but it is like a mommy and me program. I don't know when they switch to just the child because my daughter is 8. If you google cpac-hathaway you'll fine their website and phone number. If you find a good ballet school closer to Allen I'd love to know! This was the only one I could find that didn't do a hip-hop-belly-showing-costume recital. We love it but it is quite a drive for us.
