hello all,
just wondered what you feel sells best at bake sales. I have to admit i never buy at bakesales so i am clue less. also i cant just dontate a pan of brownie or a dozen cookies, I have to package them. but If i just make cookies are chocolate chip cookies 3 to a ziploc ok?

also i have wondered for a long time if those pans that make brownies supposedly presliced, it looks sort of like an old fashioned icecube tray, do they actually work?

I have a hard time making my desserts come out looking nice. I know i could google a million and one sites on this topic but thought i could start here.
any tips are welcome

What can I do next?

I have one of those pans that pre slices and I love it because my favorite ones are the end pieces and this pan gives all the brownies that chewy edge, but I wouldn't' run out and buy one just for this sell. Cookies are fine, 3 to a bag is fine.

brownies and chocolate chip cookies are perennial favorites.
but you don't have to bake something that you're not happy about presenting. if you don't like how your brownies usually come out, do the cookies. or if you'd rather not bake at all, volunteer to do something else to help out. i wouldn't go buy a special pan just for this.
3 cookies to a bag is perfect (unless they're huge.) if you really want to be a star, make pretty little ingredient lists to add to them so the parents of kids with allergies can buy them with confidence.

I wouldn't buy a pan that makes brownies presliced. Even being a non-stick pan, the brownies still won't slide out clean. I'd be afraid that there would be broken brownies and that would really be irritating.

If you have any of the kiddie "party gift bags" that have pretty twist-ties to close them up, that's an idea to put cookies or brownies in.

Rice Krispie Treats are my go to. It's the quickest to make when I have to donate something, and surest bet to buy at a bake sale. It's one of those things you don't really care how it looks when you buy it (if it's uneven, not a perfect square) but a brownie or cookie has to look pretty edible and be cut nicely. Brownie would be second choice- cookies there is too much variation in how people make them (soft vs hard vs crumbly)

Check with the bake sale before you make anything, since many no longer accept homemade items due to allergies, cross contamination, and health code.

I would start by first asking the organizers what they need and/or what sells the best. At our school it was brownies, chocolate chip cookies and rice crispy treats, saran wrapped into individual servings and sold for about .50 to 1.00 a piece.
And if you're not really a baker then why not help in another way, advertising, promotion/ticket sales to the event, set up or clean up after, manning the booth???
There are so many ways to help at a bake sale that don't involve baking at all.

3 cookies to a bag is fine. Almost everyone like chocolate chip cookies.

I always donate my chocolate chip with smidge of oats cookies to our school's bake sales, and they sell. Lots of butter. They are the soft kind. I was asked to do the 3 to a Ziploc bag thing - and they price them.
We've done Rice Krispy ones (easy to make) for my kid's sales in their classes - they were a hit.
People do fancy cupcakes and all that now - which are great, if you're into it. But I still find the brownies, choc chip cookies, etc. sell the best. My husband always buys fudge. Only time he gets it :)
I have not tried that kind of brownie pan. When I make brownies, I find so long as you make sure to grease the pan first, you're ok. I always stick in fridge and let them firm up before I cut them. You can get pretty decent looking cuts that way.

I have a brownie pan and love it BUT you need to practice making them and then getting them out of the pan. I have a problem with it sometimes and spraying the pan with veggie oil doesn't always get them out. I have a brownie pan spatula and it helps but I worry that it is scratching my pan when I have to dig.

So, in my honest opinion, it's worth it to buy the silicone style of brownie pans. They never stick and they can go up to 350 degrees.

I have a pan that has 12 molds for loaves so I make chocolate chip banana bread. It always sells the fastest.

IMO, things that are less expensive and prepackaged (like 3 cookies for 50 cents) appeal to kids and parents will go "Oh, ok" vs a cake for $20. Kids, IMO, care a lot less what the brownie looks like.

We usually sell by the dozen or half dozen. Fancy shortbread is very popular this time of year.

I am not a good baker and don't like bake sales either. The best one I did was actually caramel apples. They were easy and very popular. You can add sprinkles to make them festive. Fudge is also easy to make (Here is a microwave recipe: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/9368/fudge/).

Costco has a tub of individually wrapped Madelines which are very tasty. That's what I am bringing to a bake sale tomorrow. They had all kinds of restrictions and rules for the sale, it was so much easier to do these! If I had the time, I would unwrap half and dip them in chocolate and sprinkles and re-bag, then leave the other half wrapped. But I don't have time, so they get pre-wrapped!

I have the Pan and it's great but ask organizers what they want.
