He probably has the infection in the 'crypts' of his tonsils which is causing the smell. It will take a few days for it to work itself out and then you won't notice the smell anymore.
My son has had a fever with a sore throat for a few days and now his breath smells terrible. I know he has been breathing through his mouth a lot at night and I know his throat is sore still because he drools instead of swallowing. Is this the infection in his throat making his breath smell? Has anyone ever had this experience? I am thinking it will just go away as he gets better, his fever is gone but the sore throat is still there. I brush his teeth but there is only so much you can do with a 1 yr. old and strawberry banana toothpaste! ;) Any advice?! oops, forgot to mention that we have been to the dr. and it's not strep throat.

I had strep throat last week and my breath was really bad, so much so that it even tasted bad. You should definately see the doctor and possibly get meds for the infection. I'm not sure that it will go away with out it.
Have you taken him to the Dr? It could be strep throat. His bad breath is probably from the infection.
Yes, its common...don't stress about it. As long as you have been to the doc for treatment, it will go away once the infection is gone. If it continues later in life, it could be a sign of a chronic infection in his tonsils, but you don't have to worry about that yet!

My son had really bad breath, I took him to the doctor and the strep culture was negative too.
His tonsils were really swollen though so the Ped. had him take a blood test for Mono. It took about a week for the results to come back, but it was positive for Mono. It's viral so antibiotics won't help, just time and rest. His bad breath eventually got better.
I get bad breath every time I get a cold! Sometimes I know a cold is coming if I dont like my breath and am brushing a little more frequently :) Dont know why :)
YEP YEP! I delt with this offten with my son with strep throat, and infection. It will probably take a few days until the smell is gone until it is healed completely. Maybe just in case you could call and ask the doc about it though! but I am pretty sure it is common at least it was with my boy!
Good luck, hope this helps
