I have severe lower back pain. I have had two children in the last three years and it has been really hard on my body, I am very petite 5'2 and both my kids were 9 lbs. Both deliveries were hard and I am in pain almost all the time. Sometimes its hard to move. My MRI is comingout normal, any suggestions on DRs close by or what I should try?

What can I do next?

Hi E., My name is A. and I'm a certified personal Trainer. I'm also the owner/ instructor for Stroller Strides Boynton Beach. It sounds to me like your pain is a direct result from lower back or CORE weakness. If you did some simple exercises to strengthen that area your pain might go away. You could come to a free class (bring your baby) and I could show you what to do. Log onto strollersrides.com and check us out. Back pain is a common result of pregnancy and child birth, but it definitely can be helped through exercise.

Have you tried physical therapy? I would ask your primary doctor for a prescription for physical therapy, it is the most conservative approach to start with. (Please don't go to a chiropractor, I am a PT myself and I can't tell you how many times I have seen people after they have been to the chiro saying the chiro made them worse!)
I have heard good things about Dr. Zipper, but as previously said, he is pain management and I wouldn't want to have shots until more conservative approaches (such as PT) have been taken. For a back specialist, I would really recommend Dr. Mark Eskenazi ###-###-####. I have seen many PT's send their family members to him. Good luck.

hi E.,

i have had really bad lower back pain and neck pain for more years than i can remember. I have been going to Dr. Zipper, at the National Pain Center, in Delray....His office is on Atlantic Boulevard just west of the Carnival Flea Market. The injections in my neck have not helped and the next step recommended was a rhizotomy which is a procedure to numb the nerv endings. I am in constant pain and not a candidate for surgery so i am seriously considering this....If PT does not work for you, try "googling" lumbar rhizotomy and get an idea of the procedure...it's a little scary but outweighs constant pain.

I also had chronic back pain, though not as severe as yours, caused by a condition diagnosed as scoliosis. I consulted a chiropractor and now see a certified fitness trainer who supervises my exercise routine. (Some exercises are harmful to certain conditions.) Occasionally it will flare up and I will have a therapeutic massage instead. I can't tell you how much better I function now! Call Ken Edelson at ###-###-####. His HealthQuest facilities are in the MedPlex complex near Town Center in Boca Raton.

I like Ken because he is very knowledgeable and explains what is going on with each set of muscles that he exercises and monitors my form so that I don't cause unnecessary strain. He also varies the routine so I don't get bored.
