Back Pain, Early Pregnancy (Really a Sign of Miscarriage?)

About 4 weeks pregnant I had some painful lower back pain, so of course I'm fearing the worst...miscarriage. But the pain was really bad one day and now is gone. I'm almost 5 weeks, now.

Since I have no idea how I'd know I was miscarrying, can someone who has been there help? Every little thing, I fear is the end of the pregnancy. I have no cramping. I have no symptoms of pregnancy either (well, it's early). I feel great! Just had that back pain for a day. It was painful and now it's totally gone, which I don't get.

I've had weird back pains on and off even before this pregnancy, but the painful day at about 4 weeks was unlike what I was used to. It was both sides, lower. I could not bend down straight. But it didn't hurt unless I tried to move that way. If I didn't move that way, I didn't know it was there.

So no cramping, no bleeding, no nothing. Should I be worried?

What can I do next?

Both of my pregnancies I've had lower back pain (actually like the back of my pelvis) early on that was not any problem. Just a part of early pregnancy I guess. Try not to worry too much!

I had two miscarriages both around 11 weeks, and both were exactly like having an extremely heavy period with painful cramps.

heres the only thing you will ever be able to expect from pregnancy: YOU CANT EXPECT ANYTHING TO GO A CERTAIN WAY. (sorry if the caps were too much!)
never compare it to anyone elses or take anyones suggestions or advice unless its your doctor.
good luck!

When I miscarried, it felt like my menstrual cramps but only 100 times worse! I had cramping everywhere, and blood to go right with it. I would call your doctor and see if they want to see you. It's better to be safe rather than sorry.

It is very possible to have cramping present as back pain. My back hurts SO bad before I get my periods, for example. I got all kinds of weird pains early on in this pregnancy (I'm 27 weeks now).

The OB probably can't do much since you can't see/hear the heartbeat just yet, it's too early. Just relax & wait a few weeks, call the nurse if it will help you feel better. :)

Not really.
Hormones have an odd effect on your body, and yours are in hyperdrive right now.
For example, if you ever noticed that before your period comes, your back gets sore...that's the increase in estrogen.
You have a TON right now and it will continue as your pregnancy progresses.

I wouldn't worry about it, especially if you're not spotting.
I would suggest finding a good chiropractor. They can adjust you to alleviate that pain, and give you stretching and posture tips as things progress to keep you comfortable.

I couldn't have gotten through my 2 pregs without mine!

PS: I notice you're in Elk Grove Village. My chiro has an office there (part time city, part time burbs). PM me if you're interested in his contact info. He's great, gentle, and experienced with treating kids and pregnancy. This would not be a "3 appointments for resolution" kind of thing, but something I would suggest ongoing through your entire pregnancy. I go every 2 weeks, still. He takes all major insurance.

I have low back issues, and always have. I find that doing a lot of stretching and exercising really helps. Also, be aware of how you sleep, as this could also have an impact. ie: sore neck when you wake after sleeping in one position too long. Get a medical opinion if you're concerned, though, even if it's just to put your mind at ease! :)

Definitely run this past your OB.

Our bodies do really weird things while pregnant. Muscles and tendons do weird things in preparation for carrying the weight of a baby and then for giving birth. I couldn't have made it through either of my pregnancies without my chiropractor. I'm very small framed and I was out of whack all the time. It can be quite painful.

Anyway, if you haven't already done so, make an appointment. In the meantime, if it hurts to move a certain way, don't do it.

Very best wishes to you!
