A.K.
Muzzy is great. They really have expanded their line and they offer lots of different languages. It also comes with games for the computer.
I am soon to have twins with a 19 month old already at home. I want to buy some DVDs for her to watch during times when I just need her to be entertained when I am too distracted or overwhelmed with 2 other infants. I am not a big TV person and definitely don't want to put her in front of mindless cartoons. She has watched a couple baby einstein videos that she loves. I was thinking about the "your baby can read" series I have heard about and wanted some opinions about that or maybe another good enriching DVD series?
My twin girls are 4 weeks old now, both born over 6lbs and they are nearly 9 already! So we are all doing well. For my toddler, I ended up buying the leapfrog 5 pack dvd series and she loves the letter factory one so far. I also got 2 signing time dvd since she really likes signing, I got the zoo animals and farm animals. She seems to like them ok but we only watched them one time each.

Try Preschool Prep. i think it's preschoolprepco.com ? My 19 month old knows his colors & is starting to count! Awesome & entertaining, but very simple....a little more $$ than elmo or Wiggles (also aswesome), but worth it!
I have twins too! Congratulations on your new babies and to your daughter for being a big sister who can say she has "two babies".
We have been using the "Your baby can read DVD's" for about 10 months. The Dvd's graphics quality isn't very good as the other reviewer commented, but I do have to say that my children love it a lot more than better filmed stuff. I think they really just like the simplicity, its not overwhelming for them. I can't say that my children have learned to read, but they certainly learned the words and actions in the video earlier than they learned similar things "like clap, arms up, tiger" etc.
Your daughter might be past signing, but we stopped watching "My Baby can Read" as often when my kids absolutely fell in love with "My Baby can Talk" and wanted to see it multiple times a day. Other than that we watch sesame street when we all need down time(or I need 10 minutes scream free while I make lunch). Yea for the DVR where Sesame Street is always ready to go.
Hi,
I wish I had advice for you about some baby videos, but I have a 13 month old dd who does not care to watch any tv, no matter what I put on for her. Maybe I'll check out some of the recommendations from the other moms. Congrats on your TWINS! Wow, you are going to be a busy mama. Stay strong and good luck!
I think the reading one is OK.. heard good things about it too.
I also used videos from time to time, no television, but an ocassional video for times to get stuff done.
Our kids latched on to the whole Baby Einstein series. My 4 year old still watches them, and just had his birthday with the Beethovan character because he loves him so much. They now prefer classical music, which is nice on the ears, some videos have horrid voices and music!
Good luck!
My son loves "Elmo's All-Star Alphabet"...Steve Colbert plays the letter "Z" (one of the hosts of the show), so parents can find it entertaining too. :o)
I actually stopped buying DVD's when I learned that there are two 24 hour preschool channels:
Sprout - by PBS (shows like Sesame Street, Barney, Bob the Builder - http://www.sproutonline.com/sprout/home/jump.aspx)
AND
Noggin - by Nick Jr. (shows like Dora the Explorer, Blues Clues, WonderPets - http://www.noggin.com/)
No matter what time of day I might need my son to be entertained, I know he can watch a fun and educational program, without me having to fumble with a bunch of DVD's. ;-)
Hi D.! It is so funny that you mentioned the "Your Baby Can Read Program." When I started reading your post, I thought of that right away. I am an Educational Consultant for Usborne Children's Books. We actually sell that series. It is a wonderful program for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. It is a 5 DVD set with word and picture cards that will cost you $79.95. Let me know if you are interested or have any questions. Also, feel free to take a look at all our other books and learning materials on my site at www.ubah.com/X2733.

The Laurie Berkner Band DVD is great. Also, try the First Impressions series- great learning DVD's about Shapes, Colors, etc. My daughter loves them!
Try Preschool Prep Series dvd's. At first my daughter didn't watch them, but after a week she loves them and she has learned alot from them. They have a web site.
I am so happy you asked this. I got the Your Baby Can Read series for my son just because I wanted something good for him to watch, not really believing he will actually learn something from them. You need to understand these are really low quality videos. BUT, my son is now 25 months old almost and has been watching them since 10 months old (though you can start at 3 months old) and even though he hasn't watched them twice a day and in the right order and all of that stuff, he can read about 40 words now. It is AMAZING. He started speaking very soon after starting to watch them and started reading the words at about 17 months. Don't expect anything to happen overnight but my son loves these DVDs and it is something that is safe and good for him to watch. Of course it's no replacement for mommy time, but with new twin babies sometimes you just need to let your older child watch TV. So I highly recommend this series.
We love Baby Songs-all of them! They are other babies that sing and play on video. Our youngest loves many of the sign language videos too. And little time with a fun cute animated video will not cause problems. It's when those few little times here and there become ALL DAY and EVERY DAY! LOL
Good Luck to you!
Take Care,
N. :) SAHM homeschooling 3 boys 13, 8 & 2 yrs old and married to my Mr. Wonderful for 15yrs. I love to help other moms, who want to become SAHMs, reach that goal!
Another great one is called signing times. They learn sign launguage for kids. Its very well done, easy for the kids to understand and helps them communicate earlier so they fuss less. My kids love it.
if she liked baby einstines then she will love little einstines
it follows the same line but has actual charicters and they do clasical music colours and so on.
also my son likes thomas. but you could also do dora.
my son loves it and he seams to larn and remember a lot.
why dont you go to your library and check out a few that way you can decide what is for you and you can either keep borrowing or you can go ahead and just buy.
you have to realize that some of this stuff is mindless to us because it is second, third nature to us. but not so for children.
another good one is Curious George. its all about a monkey. it is on PBS. check it out.
this is also in books and on cd.
we loved pbs. also curious george videos are informative and i think my daughter liked them because sometimes george has a hard time being understood (doesn't speak human). she also likes the old wiggles vhs tapes and the little bear movie we received as hand-me-downs. we stay away from commercial tv. i just hate the commercials.
I have 3 boys (ages 4, 3 and 1) -- I recommend videos like Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go and Blues Clues.... they are "interactive" videos where the characters ask the viewer questions, like "let's count together" and "which way should we go?" It picques their interest. Also Sesame Street has lots of videos that are entertaining and educational.
Best wishes!

Try Galloping Minds DVDs and flash cards. 4 of them teach fundamentals like ABCs, 123s, Colors, Shapes, Phonics. The flash cards augment the DVDs.
DVD Titles include: Baby Learns Alphabet and Phonics, Preschooler Learns Numbers and Counting with Animals.
Flash Cards: Alphabet and Phonics, Numbers, Shapes and Colors
Both my kids enjoted the Leapfrog series. Learning letters, Learning sounds, making words, math. There are a lot and enen though they may not understand all the information. The music is great and before my son new what punctuation was he was singing along. It is not just emply TV but great learning. My daughter also loves the Potty Power DVD. She is not trained yet but she seems to understand the concept.
