Ok - this may be silly; but my son's ready for his first haircut... any special mommy tricks you guys know??? He's definately going through a phase of seperation anxiety and general strangers make him nervous right now.... any good tips or suggestions? He has a LOT of hair! I live in the UNCC area.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I had his haircut at Snipits in Birkdale Village; their prices were within 2 dollars of most Great Clips, Hair Cuttary, etc. Check out their site:

It was amazing; he didn't cry; and the atmosphere is WONDERFUL for babies! They gave me a baggie of his hair for keeps, a certificate of bravery, and I took a picture!!! They have TV's set up at each station w/ special baby movies and they even blow bubbles to distract the baby. They also let me hold him on my lap!!!

My son went for his first haircut at 11 months too and did really really well. Surprisingly so! We also went to Snip-Its and they did a great job with him. The stylist told me that it is not the first haircut that is tough...it is the couple following which I definitely found to be true! We went for number three today and it was tough. The first one is new and different and the babies seem to be interested in everything. Another salon choice... Super Kids Salon which is by the Lowe's Foods shopping center at Prosperity Church and Eastfield. $5 cheaper and just as good!

Ahhhh! Owen needs a haircut desperately and I'm not sure I can do it myself! I mean, how hard can it be, right? But if I screw this up...well, it wouldn't be good! Let me know what you find!

Hi Sarah,

I took my boys for their first haircuts at about the same age. I found that holding them in my lap while they did it helped a lot. (Make sure they give you a cover of your own unless you like being covered in hair.) I helped the hair stylist by gently holding their head (mostly with my hand under their chin) and all went smoothly.

Good luck!!

We haven't had Nathans done yet. But my sister in law said that her husband had to get his hair cut first and the stylists explained each item she was using on the dad. When it came time for Evans haircut he sit really still.

Good for you! I'm trying to set it up to work from home too, currently only able to 2 days a week. If you want to try it yourself; try naptime on a towel, trimming a little when he's in a deeper sleep stage, starting at the back if he's on his side. If he doesn't stir, do a bit more, working toward the top & sides until you're satisfied w/the length.
