Does anyone have any experience with baby/child modeling in the city? More people than I can count have said that we should get our 11 month old daughter into modeling. I've heard even a couple good jobs can get a great jump start on a college fund so I think it's worth looking into. I would love to hear any feedback - good or bad - from parents that have had 'model' kids.

One of my girlfriends took her daughter to Ford modeling. Every Monday afternoon they have an open call for children. Check out their website for time and location. They will call you back by the end of the week of they are interested. My friend did get a call back and they signed a contract with them. Most of the work is print work and kids get $75/hour for print work and it is usually for 2-3 hours. You will also so have to get a work permit for your daughter if she is selected.

I looked into the same just last month. A management company contacted me to get my daughter into modeling. After the initial meeting, they told me that for the low fee of $650 (!) they could have professional pictures created and manage my daughter’s modeling bookings.

I say that if you have the time, the patience, a digital computer and internet access, you could do all of it yourself – sending out pictures, finding casting calls, etc. The only catch is that you have to have the kind of schedule that will allow you to take your child on go-sees with a one day notice. But, the money is good and every little bit helps when planning for college.

Keep in mind that you can also apply for tons of scholarships (when the time comes). Plenty of money goes unclaimed. Just like we are encouraged to plan our retirement using a multi-level approach, plan to do the same with college planning for children.

Good luck.

I've had people say the same thing (oh he should be a model!) about our son but I just don't have the time or energy to do anything with it.

We do have a 529 plan for him, though - my mom set it up for him as a baptism gift and did quite a lot of research before deciding on this one. It's through the state of Utah http://www.uesp.org/.
