Baby Mattress:which Is Better, Rubber or Coil?

They are about the same in price, and both organic and free from the standard mattress toxic vinyl, and high quality. I heard coil is much heavier...esp when changing sheets more than once a day. A rubber mattress just seems so out of the norm to me. Does ANYONE have experience with a rubber mattress? Is a coil one too heavy for a bad back?

What can I do next?

I have only heard of coil mattresses. I do know that you can can different levels of firmness. This is important to consider id you plan to have more than one child. Matresses need to stay firm enough to last for a second baby (due to SIDS risk). I think part of the issue is how they are covered or what the outside material is since some people don't reuse mattresses due to worrying about how they trap bacteria, dust, etc. Most of the cheaper mattresses aren''t "rated" for reuse with a second child. We have a matress shich is firm on one chide for a toddler and extra firm on the other side for an infant and rated for reuse. We got it at Buy Buy Baby.

Anyway, if you are going to spend a little more, then look at whether you will be able to save the mattress and reuse it.

babies i dont think are heavy enough to even feel the difference. when they become toddlers they probably do but both are firm when new so i dont see as it would mater then either. i personally would go with the cheapest until they are 10 and care.

I've actually never heard of a rubber mattress so I'm not much help there. My youngest is using the same Serta mattress that I got when my oldest was born and he's now almost 6. It was roughly $75 at Babies R Us. It is not heavy at all and very easy to maneuver when changing bedding.

K.,
i have had 2 Kocraft coil ,atresses for my oldest, middle and youngest is using the one that my middle used .. we tossed the matress that my son had as a baby because it was torn and not useable anymore. I have never heard of the rubber type matresses either. with the Kolcraft I love it vecause of the firmness that is there but it also is easily wipeable for those messy times too. i changed sheets every week with my kids unles there was a leak from a diaper then it was more. I know that walmart sells the Kolcraft, as for price i am nto o sure on what they cosst now or what we paid for ours.

We just ordered the naturepedic 252 coil.. ultra.. for $359. We played around with it in a showroom and liked it... we too felt like the rubber was just so different we couldn't get past it :)

I can't really help with your mattress question because I have never heard of the rubber ones but I can help you avoid changing the sheets several times a day! I found these great little pads at babycenter.com. They are called sheet savers and they are great at keeping small messes off the sheets. They tie to the rails and don't shift or bunch. Worked great for us for the first few months! Check them out.
