The milk should keep your child hydrated but if your baby stops wetting his/her diaper then your child could be dehydrated and taken to the emergency room for IV fluids. Does your child's pediatrician have an after hours line so you can talk to a medical professional?

Try a tiny sip of water every 10 minutes or so. It is better than nothing. Perhaps Baby will keep it down. Be very careful of dehydration. You might want to take your baby to the doctor, just to be safe.

Medicine dropper of fluids every 10 minutes. Not sure how old your baby is but good old Coca Cola syrup always settles the stomach for my family. The pharmacy will have it, ask your doctor. Are the diapers wet?? Babies can dehydrate very easily so call the doc, do not wait to long!!

You can also do popsicles, those will help with fluid and kids are usually receptive to them. I would go with all juice pops if possible unless there is diarehhea (I never spell that right!!) b/c juice will make it worse. As JC said, make sure there are still wet diapers. If the inside of the baby's mouth becomes tacky then a visit to the doctor or ER is needed.

It depends how old the baby is. My ped said no wet diapers for 12 hours is dehydration, but less than that and she's not worried. Try pedialyte in a medicine dropper or popsicles. Are you saying the baby is drinking a regular amount of milk (formula?)? If so, there's nothing to worry about. If the baby cries, does he have tears? Does he have drool? If so, he's not dehydrated. Also look to see if the soft spot on top of his head becomes really caved in. All of those are reasons to call the doctor.

Call the pediatrician ASAP. Does your doctor have a 24-hour "triage line" to answer questions and help them and you decide if the baby needs more help right away?

The dr. should be able to tell you their standard for what to watch. If the baby is not urinating (diapers are dry for several hours) you may have a dehydratiing baby on your hands and you need to act quickly. You don't say how old the baby is but does he or she regularly drink all those kinds of fluid iin addition to milk? Or are you trying them out new to see what the baby will drink? What's a "regular amount" of milk? It may or may not be enough to keep the baby hydrated but we can't know here on Mamapedia. A doctor or pediatric nurse really needs to talk you through all that. Get a professional opinion soon because you may need to take the baby for rehydration by IV; iinfants and very small kids are just not able to understand when adults try to force them to drink.

When you say milk, do you mean breastmilk? Breastmilk is considered a "clear liquid" and if your baby will take that, then s/he will OK without pedialyte or other liquids. Don't give soft drinks. Water. Juice. Pedialyte. Might need to cut the pediatlyte with water to help it stay down.

When we all had a horrible stomach bug a few years ago, we were told to hold 1 teaspoon of crushed ice in our mouths. It will be absorbed through the skin of the mouth and not need to hit the stomach (where it would get returned). Started off slow, like once every hour or half hour. See if you can do similar for your baby (a baby spoonful).

I do agree, though, that if baby can take milk and keep any of it down, that's better than a kid who can't take anything.

Keep trying. If baby doesn't take fluids, you want to be very watchful of dehydration. It's a very serious and easy thing for little ones to get. If she goes very long with low fluids, I would consider taking her in just to make sure she is okay.

you got some good tips, but what works for me is a medicine dropper (syringe-thingy) of water/pedialyte, etc. real small amounts. you don't want him/her to throw up again but they gotta have something. do it frequently, maybe bout every 15 mins or so. i never had a prob w/my boy taking meds via syringe (the plastic ones y'know) so this way always works - still does if i need it & he's almost 3
good luck hon, this sucks for you both. hope he/she feels better soon!
