I know a baby that had this experience and is 9 months old and really isn't using his left arm and hand that much...he is getting sporatic therapy, just not sure its enough....he is not crawling yet, but does get up on his hands and knees and rocks back and forth.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thanks for all the responses....after talking with his mom, and telling her my concerns, I feel confident he will get MORE therapy. I feel better now that he is going to be perfectly fine.

A baby's brain is amazing. The younger trauma happens the more likely they will have to completely turn around. The brain seeks new paths in the brain to be able to do things and will heal itself quite well. With continued therapy you will be amazed of what that baby will be able to do..

I am sorry for that family. However, it seems as if the baby has met some milestones. Is there a reason the therapy is only sporatic? I live in Chicago and we have a fabulous Early Intervention program that runs on sliding scale fees. I strongly urge the family to get into some kind of regular therapy program and follow up with the exercises at home. Look into the programs in your area. Good luck!

Not sure what your question is here. I would think if the baby had a stroke when it was born, it would be in therapy a lot more than just sporadic.
Is there any brain damage? Does the baby seem normal other than that? Is the parents working with him on his left side?

I would think they need to get more help and find a hospital or children center that can give them the help they need.
Take care.
