Baby Eczema - APO,AE

I know that laundry certain detergents can aggravate the condition. Frequent baths will also make her skin drier, especially over here where the water is so harsh. Sun helps (but good luck with that...maybe this summer=). I know that if you put lotion on right after her baths that it's better absorbed. You probably already know all this! I hope I helped a little....google.com is my best friend over here....I'm forever saying..."google it!" When my oldest was a baby we could only use Cetaphil (sp??...it's been 13 years=) products on him. It's expensive, but it really worked. I know that a lot of people with eczema are allergic to dairy products......

Have you tried corn starch? I used this on my son when he had the chicken pox, and my mom used to put on us whenever we had any type of rash. All you do is dab it on the rash area as often as needed. Hope this helps :o)

I have a 3 month old and when I went to my sons 2 month apt. I asked about that. She (the pediatrician) told me that this weather and water here make it rough on the babies skin and that is causes it to break out, so she perscibed for me Cetaphil, which is a wash for all ages (you can buy it at the PX) and then DermaCerin (a really thick lotion). The lotion is hard to put on but seems to keep him mosit and the baby exema stays content. I hope this helps.

well try not to bathe your daughter everyday that can really dry out their little skin. when you do bathe her use vaseline (best if used at night time then every morning try using aveeno for eczema. our daughter's eczema has pretty much gone away.

go to a german store like Real or Globus. In the baby section they have this creme for kids it's called HAUT-UND KINDER-CREME it's by Kaufmann's the jar is yellow and has a green lid with yellow writting on and a baby. My friend used it on her baby and she said it works really good.Her baby has eczema. When I had my baby ( he was 10 days over due ) he had a really dry skin and was peeling all over and the doctor recommendet that creme on him and it worked great. Maybe if you get a small jar for like 3 euros and try it.

My dear little girl who is now 3 months old had eczema for a time. I was told by the German doctors not to put anything on it and to not bathe her very often. They said that bathing and putting lotions on hinders her ability to create and regulate her own skin oils. I basically bathed her in warm water once a week and only soaped up her diapered areas when needed. She's totally fine now, no skin issues at all other than the ocassional scrathes she gives herself. Also, once the weather becomes warmer here in Germany her skin will be less dry, at least that's how it is with my 3 yr old and myself. Good luck with your little one.

My name is C. Meyers and I also live in Germany. My 2 yr. old son has the same problem and the only thing I can suggest is Aveeno oatmeal bath. It helps releave the itching for a while. Then put the Aquaphor or Eurcerine on her.

What is in her diet? at four months she should really have only breastmilk or formula nothing else. Eczema is a reaction to something so I'd suggest cutting out any other food. and if you do Breastfeed try giving nothing but BM for a while. After a week or so it should start to clear up.

My co-workers baby had horrible eczema and getting him off cereal and back on BM cleared it right up.

Arbonne International has a baby line that works great on eczema. I'm in Japan right now and it seems that so many kids over here have it. I'm happy to say the baby wash and lotion have been working really well.

I'm not a Dr. or expert but I have read a lot about eczema...(I'm sure you probably have, too). Have you tried changing your clothes detergents, bath wash, and or shampoo? Any chemicals (even Johnson & Johnson) that come into contact with your babie's skin can affect her eczema. Something very mild and pH balanced is best. I think 7th Generation may have a pH balanced detergent. I would use Aveeno or even something natural and or organic in the bath. You may have already tried these options but changing these things helped a friend of mine. :) Good Luck!

I used Eucerin per my doctor's instructions when my girls had excema. It seemed to work really well, also, keep the area dry (aside from the lotion) and it also seemed like exposure to cold aggravated it. Hope this helps she will grow out of it. It will start to get sunny pretty soon. How long have you been here?

You might need to switch her laundry detergent. I am an Independent Distributor for Shaklee and we have great laundry options. there is a super cream called Mitosyl. You can get it in the German pharmacy. I used the cream on skin rashes on my children when they were little and they were gone the next day.
Hang in there it will get better.

Your baby may be experiencing an allergic reaction. Have you fed her anything new lately??

Coconut oil bathes do help. Melaluca lotion helps. I hate to say this but also not giving then a bath but once a week or longer. Put lotion on the as much as you think of it. Eucerin cream is good when it is really bad. The natural lotions are better than the ones it the grocery stores. You can order so of them.

A mother of 3 boys with eczema.

My son and I both have eczema, after two years of "hamburger hands" (that's what my husband called my skinless fingers) we finally got the referral to the dermatologist. The PCM had told us to use Eucerin and a prescription med. called "ellidel". The dermatologist informed us that many people who have sensitive skin, may also have sensitivity to lanolin (sp?), which the Eucerin has! However, Eucerin is what the base pharmacy carries! So we now gladly shell out the dough for the tub of Cetaphil. Cetaphil also has soaps (I prefer the bar soap, it gives a bit more lather and less greasy). Hope my info. may help you and bring a silver lining to your nasty weather cloud :)

My 1 year old has eczema on her face. We tried pretty much everything too. Finally I eliminated wheat from her diet-and mine too, as I am still nursing, and it helped immensely. Maybe she has some sort of allergy to something?
When she does have a flare-up-which is much less common than it used to be-we have some steroid cream from the Dr. that I use on her. Other than that, our daily routine is Eucerin morning & night. She gets bathed every other day unless she is dirty & we only use Dove soap & Johnson's baby shampoo on her. I read somewhere that after bathing, you should get the cream or whatever you are using on within 3 minutes to help seal in the moisture so we make sure we do that with our Eucerin. I hope some of this helps you! I know it is frustrating! Oh and I only use All Free & Clear detergent & no fabric softener.

my nephew had a really bad case of eczima since he was 3 months old and my sister has tried different cures throughout the years (he is now 5). He is on a diet now and has several foods he is allergic to. So when my sister was breastfeeding, the doctor put her on a diet too(no dairy products, no tomatoes...). When we took my nephew to a skin specialist in Boston when he was 1 1/2 years old, he was prescribed Elidel and it worked wonderfully for a while (though I think it is prescribed for kids at least 12 months or older.) My sister has also gone a couple of times to a hot spring resort in Italy ( Terme di Comano) where patients get to soak in a tub filled with thermal water for a while . And this approach has helped too.
My nephew still has eczima but it is not as bad as it was (he looked like he had skin burns when he was a baby. They used to put gloves on him when he was sleeping to prevent him from scratching himself).
If more detailed info is needed (kind of diet, location of resort) please let me know.

Try penaten cream. It is a German cream (also used in Australia and Canada) for all type of skin aliments, including eczema and diaper rash. You should be able to pick some up in the Germany stores. I think it is also sold online and ebay.

My daughter's allergist said to only bathe her everyother day and basically in and out. Water itself is drying which is not good for dry skin. Use only Baby Aveeno no scented body wash and lotion and it should clear it up. Every now and then my daughter breaks out on her face and I have to put prescription hydrocortizone cream on her, but it's not often. Also watch if you use lotion that you don't touch her right after you put it on or she can break out.

Our second son had the same issues because of the harsh dry winters in Korea. The only things that helped him were fewer bathings ie every 2-3 days and using Aveeno Baby
Soothing Bath Treatment. It comes in small packets and we used just a little bit. He was allergic to aquaphor it was too heavy. To treat the really dry spots we used a perscription hydrocortozone cream - i think a 2% solution.

It looks like you've already recieved a ton of replies but I didn't see my favorite. I love the Johnsons soothing naturals - soothing balm. (The package that it comes in looks sort of like a small stick of deodorant.) My daughter is 11 months old now and hasn't had a problem with her eczema since I started using it around 2 months. I just put it on her face after she gets out of the bath when her skin is still soft and warm. It works great and smells so nice.

Hi D.! My son to has eczema pretty badly as a matter of fact. He is nine months now and had suffered with it since birth. My doctor told me to use hydrocortisone on any break out spots 2-3 times a day layered with Eucerin cream. Just apply a thin layer of the hydrocortisone with a normal amount of of the Eucerin(it will be greasy). This stuff really worked magic on my son. Remember not to use the hydocortisone more than 14 days in a row and apply the Eucerin all over your baby's body at every diaper change and especially within 3 minutes of getting out of the bath. Also try not to use anything with any kind of fragrance in it even be sure to watch what kind of laundry soap you use on your baby's clothes. Hopefully that will help her little skin become much more comfortable to live in. Good luck!

Try Eucerin and Dove soap for sensitive skin only whenever you bath your baby. Use the Eucerin Cream not the lotion the lotion contains too much water which is counterproductive to what you need to do. Bath your baby once a day unless there is a big blowout and don;t leave her in standing water longer than she needs to in order to play keep her dry as possible. When she has dry patches apply th eucerin as need to those areas during the day several times a day. Your doctor can also Rx a steroid cream for those areas just make sure you use as directed when and if they do so, you may have to ask for it.
Also as your baby gets older there can be a link beteween seasonal allergies and eczema, your pediatrition may not want to admit this because most doctors will not diagnose a child under the age of two with allergies, as all mothers will find out as time goes by you have to eventually go to the doctor and tell them what is wrong with your child and what you want done that is why I am telling you this, the earlier you learn the better and easier your doc appts will go and the less headache you will have and you will enjoy your childs growing up rather than looking back at how you spent so much time and money on trying to cure your childs eczema rather than remembering her laughter.
Try this and I hope it works, if it does not go on to the next thing till you find out what works for her skin type. Now the Eucerin is a little bit more pricier than the others but it is well worth it. Also you may find it hard to rub it into her fragile skin so you may need to mix it with some Vaseline so that it will roll on smoother. Try this for a least a week and see if you don't see some improvement. I found that the key to treating eczema is don't look for instant results it takes time for the skin to react to treatment so be patient if you find that it is making it worse by all means stop. I had a friend whose daughter suffered from it horribly as a baby and she tried everything and stayed at the doctor I told her about eucerin and she tried it but did not stick to it and she went on to olive oil and lots of other torturous treatments that left her frustrated she ended up using eucerin and her daughter grew out of the worse stages of eczema as she got older so lets hope that this is temporary for your child also, as for me now my son is ten and he still uses eucerin and Dove and his skin is very well managed by those two things and claritin for his allergies so he has few problems except the occasional need for a steroid cream for some areas that flare up with the season changes. My son developed eczema when he was a few months old (he is now 9 months) and it was on his face and legs and it was bright red and very itchy. He was miserable!! (And so were we)
We bought a humidifier for his room which really helped a lot. We also use boiled cooled water, that has been FILTERED for his bottles (found this info on the internet).
With the creams it is just a matter of trial and error - what works for one child may not work for another.

My youngest son suffered from baby eczema and I hated putting on all those creams, especially on his face where I worried that he would ingest some. An old country nurse suggested I use crisco. After his bath when his skin was still moist I would rub a small amount into the affected areas. It worked wonderfully and I never worried about the chemicals in the lotions. On the really bad areas I did use a little steriod cream (cortisone) under the crisco but only sparingly. Good luck.

Did you go to the Dr? I was in Germany when my son was diagnosed with a mild case of eczema. My doctor gave me a prescription cream for the bad outbreaks and then told me to just use Lubriderm the rest of the time. I can't think of what it is called but I still have some. It will be coming to our new house. We PCS'd and are buying a house so have not had our things delivered yet. We will be in there next week if you want to get a hold of me then. I may not be on-line right away. It would be best to try after the 21st or so. But go to your doctor and ask about a cream. It is in a tube. I hope this helped a bit. Have a good week and good luck.

Hi my son has struggled with eczema since he was born here are the things that have helped:

1. Bottom Butter by Palmer's (I know that it is a diaper rash cream but it has done wonders for him). You have to Google it and find a store that sells it.

2. California Baby Creams (I like the calming and calendula the best). Go to http://www.californiababy.com/skin-care.html for more info. The best part is that these are all natural so many of the drying chemicals are not in them! Lines like Aveeno, Johnson and Johnson, and most other brands found in AAFES have the chemicals. Things like propylene glycol, sodium laryl and laureth sulfate are some of the worst.

The lotion Eucerin is recomended by doctors. You can also buy some eczema lotion in the baby section but I'm not sure if they carry it at Spang or Bit, I remember seeing some in the states, maybe you can search on eBay, that's where I buy a lot of stuff because people are always willing to ship to APO's. My little girl had eczema when she was a baby. I had a friend whose husband was a dr. He suggested mixing Eucerin, which is just an over the counter lotion and Hydrocorizone in the palm of your hand and rubbing on the spots. It worked for me! Good luck!

I'm having the same problems too - I've been sticking with Aquaphor as it seems to give the most relief even though there aren't huge visible results. Its mostly dry on my son's (19 mos now) cheeks, but he had dry and bumpy skin on his arms and legs. The dr has also prescibed Hydrocortisone which seemed to sting as he cried whenever I put it on and then Moisturin by Dermacare which seems to be a poor generic for Eucerin. At the last appt, the dr has changed his mind and suggested it is Keratosis pilaris with also some eczema on the cheeks. We now have Hydrolac which is ammonium lactate. It stings my son's cheeks so I am only using it on his body, but to be honest the lotion feels horrible on my hands when I apply it, who knows how it feels on his arms and legs. If anyone else has any ideas, please send them along.

You've tried just about everything, eh? Have you attempted cocoa butter? Another suggestion would be to become aware of soaps being used on your four month old. And then also, consider the type of laundry detergent, and whether you are using softners and/ or dryer sheets... anything with perfume in it. Attempt to go for the plain, perfume free washes and the like. If this doesn't squash the issue, I would like to think it will at least minimize the skin issue.

Yes, I do have a suggestion. There is a wonderful Product called Sense'. My son had at Eczema and I used what is called the Eye Cream and having him on some nutrition and it cleared up.
