Baby Carrot Choking Hazard for Teething Baby?

any one know if the raw prepealed packaged baby carrots are considered a choking hazard for teething babies. I know that the fat end of a whole raw carrot is a good thing for a teething baby to gnaw on, but what about a larger sized baby carrot (adult thumb sized). My baby has one in her hand now and loves it. Not sure if this is a good idea.

What can I do next?

I put stuff like that in the little net bag thingy and let them gnaw away and they can't get big chunks out of the net bag and yet they can still gnaw and teethe. Hope this helps....Also I would put ice in the net bag thing too and they like the cold feeling on their gums and again they can't choke...

Have you experienced just how hard those gums can bite? LOL

I wouldn't let her gnaw on ANY sized raw carrot.

Freeze some damp baby cloths & let her go to town.

I would think so... They are smaller so easier to snap off a big chunk instead of shaving off little pieces... I would probably just stick to the big carrots.

Oooh, Cdm2kk, I do the same thing with ice cubes in the mesh feeder. Lately, that is the ONLY thing that will calm her down.

Yes, it is a choking hazard. This is one of the foods that my pediatrician has specifically called out along with popcorn, grapes, hot dogs.

The net bag is awesome for this type of stuff. They gnaw the heck out of it and the only bits that come through the nety are small enough to be digestible.

Check out Amazon - Munchin Fresh Food Feeder

I would recommend staying away from baby carrots, though, as they are usually preserved with a cholorine type chemical to keep them fresh and moist for longer. You are better off using good old fashioned regular carrots in a bag.

My nephew choked on a teething cookie so I'm extra careful about what I give my daughter. She's 2 and I still don't give her raw carrots. At 10 months, my daughter had a mouth full of teeth and it just takes one good bite down to have a small piece in their mouth. Not worth it, use the mesh bag. For teething, my daughter loved a wet washcloth.

I wouldn't do it. My DD didn't get raw carrots until she turned 3, and then they were only the thin sliced carrot sticks or very small baby carrots that she had to bite. She's 3.5 now and still when she's eating them, I watch her like a hawk.

A raw carrot of any size can can be a choking hazard to baby/child, I wouldn't do raw carrots. In my opinion not a good idea. J.

YES. NOT a good idea.

Even a 2-3 year old, can choke on that.

Babies, need finely minced up foods. Soft.
Or foods that break down quickly.
Even bread, can be a choking hazard, because as saliva soaks it, it becomes gummy. Just like peanut butter.
Even a pea, can be a choking hazard in a baby.

Just give your baby a dampened frozen wash cloth.
My kids gnawed on that, when teething.
