Infant Baby Acne - Oceanside, CA

My poor baby boy just developed baby acne a couple of days ago. I read a suggestion in one of my books to wash his face daily with a mild soap, but that doesn't seem to be working. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to get rid of it or help me figure out what could be causing this. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My daughter had that around 2 months, I used 1% hydro-cortisone cream on her face and it worked really well. Maybe once a day and it dried it out. I would use aveeno lotion the other times to help it from getting to dry. It will go away. My daughter has no signs of it for months now.

L.,

I know it sounds weird but use a little Vasaline. It can be used for a lot of things. Rashes of all kinds. It is really good for diaper rash too. If you notice any kind of rash the barrier of Vasaline. will protect it for everyday rubbing. My son had acne and after using the Vasaline for 2 days it went away. My doctor is the one who suggested it. Try it it really works!!

Hi L.,
My baby (2 mos old today!) had a bout of baby acne and this is my theory: We co-sleep, and the acne seemed to creep up after a night or two of cradling her head in the crook of my arm. I think it was the skin to skin contact d\and sweat that caused it. I washed her faced with just water and now make sure that when I cradle her face in my arms, I'm wearing a longsleeved shirt.
HTH!

Hi L.

If you are breastfeeding your little one, squirt some milk on it! Really. It sounds crazy, but it worked out great for us when my little one had a bit of acne. The breast milk also works in their eyes if they get a plugged tear duct! I had people comment on how clear my sons skin was and it was because when I saw something developing I'd rub a bit of milk on it.

hope you find something that works out for you!

I would take him to the doc to make sure that it is acne. My son actually had excima, and the treatment was a little different.

One thing they have in common is to start using a different detergent on his clothes and washcloths. Anything without dyes or perfumes should be good.

With the excima, we used Cetaphil cream (not the lotion, the cream). It worked like a charm. We were told to avoid soaps.

If the daily face washing with soap isn't working, you might see whether it's excima.

good luck.

My son had the same thing and it's pretty common. I did not wash his face every day with soap. Most days I just used a soft cloth and washed it with lukewarm water. It WILL go away on it's own, but the more you scrub it the worse it will be. Try burts bees body wash when you are washing him... I only give him a bath maybe 2-3 times a week. Other wise you will dry out his skin :)

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser worked for us, per our pediatrician's recommendation. Its gentle enough that it won't hurt their eyes if it gets in them. It doesn't make the acne go away, but it helps it from getting worse. The acne has to subside on its own, and I promise it will! :-) Your hormones, that are still inside him from the pregnancy, have reached their peak and literally "explode" into baby acne on their faces. My baby broke out everywhere (ears, eyelids, etc) at 3 weeks and I was so sad for him. I didn't even want to take pictures of him because it looked painful! It wil soon pass. Good luck. :-)

My daughter had baby acne really bad, too, and there really isn't much you can do that you're not already doing. It goes away! Your baby still has some of your hormones in his system and this is his body's reaction to it. PS Dreft is a waste of money and makes little to no difference!

my baby had the acne, and it goes away on its own in about a month. it was all over her face and ears, and was totally heartbreaking!! but not to worry, its just hormones that are passed onto him through you, and there's nothing you can do to make it go away. use warm water and a wash cloth a couple times a day to keep him clean. wash his face with johnsons head to toe (the yellow bottle) when you give him a bath. it will go away and you'll have that beautiful soft skin back in a few weeks. cleansers won't do anything to help. save your $.

Motherlove Diaper Rash & Thrush. It's the only thing that I've found that works consistently for my son.
