Hello All
Anyone have any tips to minimize the number of times we have to get up at night. We have 6 month old twim girls who are pretty much sleeping throught the night now. They go to bed at around 7:30pm and will go without a feeding till like 8 or 9 am ( I know I know what am i complaining about right ) lol..but they wake up numberous times at night because they have lost their pacifiers or because they have now rolled on their backs. We have tried getting them to sleep without the pacifiers but the only thing that will get them back to sleep is the paci.. Any helpful tips please.

What can I do next?

I used a sleep positioner with my daughter and had her sleep on her side. She was so cozy and because she couldn't roll around the pacifier generally stayed in her mouth or if it fell out it was at the tip of her lips. She eventually grew out of the sleep positioner once she started crawling...at which point she could grab her paci herself if she wanted it. Best of luck!

My only suggestion is what a few other moms have already said, just continue to get up to give them their paci. It really is the lesser of two evils. Eventually they will roll themselves back into their desired sleeping position and the fact that their paci popped out won't bother/wake them.
My DD at 19 months still uses her paci at night and will sometimes throw it on the floor right after we've put her down so that I will come back and give her another kiss goodnight! LOL She only does it once... point is one phase will be exchanged for another eventually.
Enjoy them!

Hi K.,
I don't have twins so you have double the work. My son Christian use to sleep with a pacifier up till about 5 months old and I took it away. He cried but I had no choice because he kept falling asleep and then it will fall out and he would cry and cry. I would get up and put it back in his mouth 8 - 10 a night. I couldn't take it any more so his pediatrition said take it away. He cried for a couple of nights then forgot about it. I know it seems harsh but they forget in a couple of days. Good luck. Also you are very luck your husband helps out. Mine thinks he helps but makes more work for me. hahahahahahahahaha

hi K.

i had the same problem,, my second child was sucking his thumb at 3 days old.. we didnt want him to get attatched to thumb sucking cause it causes teeth problems later on, so we actually got him hooked on the paci.. he loved it and soon forgot about his thumb.. but we would have the same problem every time it would fall out of his mouth he would wake up.. i wasnt getting any sleep so i pulled up his basinet to the side of our bed and there were nights i was so tired i would actually fall asleep holding it in his mouth.. but that didnt last long,my arm was always falling asleep i realized it was rediculous ..lol.. so i decided to just take it away,, he cried for about 2 nights here and there, and i felt SO bad..but.. he then totally forgot about it.. anyways if you arent getting any sleep then my suggestion is.. just take away the pacifier and in a few days they should have forgoten about it completley, babies learn to self sooth very easily so they will be fine.. you could also try getting a motion activated mobile, so when they start to wake up the soft lullaby music with put them right back to sleep... hope this helps..

I don't have twins, but I did have the same problem with my son waking up because his pacifier fell out of his mouth, when he was about 5 months old ( he's almost 9 months now). I don't know how you feel about this ( because it's such a big debate) but I chose to let him cry it out.. It took about 4 nights but after that he was totally fine.. Ever since then I will ONLY give him his pacifier when he's awake.. Naps or bedtime the pacifier comes out and he's 100% okay with that..
Good luck :0)

I think that is very normal for 6 month olds. I don't have any advice other than that.

I will like to say you are bless, if your six months old twins go to bed at 7:30pm and don't wake up again until 8:00 or 9:00am. I have four children and I can never remember anyone of them sleeping that long without waking up wanting something to drink let alone a pacifer, before 8:00 in the morning.By the way I have twins also which are 11 year old now, if that's the only problem you are having consider it a blessing.

Hi, I had the same problem with my daughter, my solution, I just got up and gave it back. The latest studies state that the paci actully helps prevent sids, so as long as you ween them of off it by 1 they should be fine, my daughter threw hers out of the crib and never asked for it again at 9mths, good luck!

At 6 months old they will move to a comfortable postion & fall back to sleep. they should also be able to pick up the pacifier themselves & put it back in thier mouth. They can usually find it on thier own, since they will look for it if they want it. I would suggest not getting up & running in right away, let them work it out themselves. If after 5 minutes they are still crying, help them out. Good luck!

I also have twins and I know how it feels to get zero sleep! I read somewhere that when the kids are old enough to grab the pacifier back for themselves, people will put numerous pacifiers in the crib to make them easier to find. My twins took pacifiers for a long time, I think I took them away right before they turned 2, and I'll tell you, any little thing like that that could help me sleep a little longer, I was willing to do it!

Hello K. , I'm a mother of two adorable boys . I have a 6 year old and an 18 month old , which keep me on my feet. My older boy slept through oit the night since he was 2 months old , while on the other hand my younger boy wakes up during the night the Pediatrician told me to let him cry , she said trust me nothing will happend , I have been trying that lately and it works wonders , I go check up on him and he is sound asleep , I cover him and end of story he sleeps through out the night , It defenitely works you only have to be persistent about it and don't give in to pick them up . I live in the Mimi Lakes area , you didn't mention what area you live , If you like to meet up . Good Luck
