Avent Bottles and BPA

some bru are doing that, some are not. i was able to trade in all of my old dr brown's bottles for born free bottles. avent DOES make a bpa free plastic, as does dr brown's, but they were out of both, so i just went with the born free, even though they were MUCH more expensive. just call before you go, call several different ones. good luck!

I also cant tell you if they will exchange them, but can tell you that we love the playtex natural latch drop in bottles!! The nipple is pretty similar to the avent, so it might be an easy switch. Good luck, I am sure it is a bit frustrating to think about having to buy bottles again! ~A.~

I exchanged my avent bottles about 6 weeks ago. I would call first to make sure they're still doing it. you have to have a complete bottle including the nipple. They essentially tell you how much your bottles are worth (current market value) and let you exchange for BPA free items. My son was starting to transition to a sippy cup and I was allowed to exchange for those. Saved me a ton of money!

I haven't heard about Babies R Us exchanging them, but I am aware of BPA. There are several websites about this controversy if you google it. My husband and I decided to stay BPA free for our new baby on the way. There are a couple of options:

Dr. Brown has a BPA free bottle
Glass bottles are back on the market
Playtex drop-ins are BPA free

Any of these bottles can be found anywhere!

One thing to keep in mind is that most Americans have not been informed about this dilemma since the FDA will not make a formal decision. I'm sure they are spending tons of money to find out for themselves the answer to the question: Is BPA harmful? Many countries have already banned BPA.

However, most of our plastics are made with BPA. From what I have learned (keep in mind I am no expert!) anything above a level 5 is not good. You can find the level on the bottom inside the recycle triangle. The biggest problem with plastics above level 5 is heating them.

I just took my Avent bottles into Babies R Us this past weekend to exchange them for BPA free ones. We took in about 16 Avent bottles - about half were the small ones and half were the bigger ones. We got a credit of $55.00 and I went to pick out the new Born Free BPA free bottles and they are much more expensive. The first girl that waited on us told us to pick out the bottles we wanted, so I pick out three packages of the smaller ones (a 3 pack). The girl rang us up and we owed $17.00, but while I was standing there another girl walked up and told the first girl that we had to buy the same number of bottles that we exchanged - which would have cost us $77.00. I told her that it was not explained to us that way and that we had just planned on registering for more bottles. She let us do it the way the first girl did it, but just be ready to spend some money! They are also getting more "particular" about the bottles that they are accepting from what the second girl said. You do have to have all of the parts - including nipples to make the exchange. I have breast fed the first two and plan to nurse #3 as well, but I like to be able to leave the baby with my husband or mother from time to time so bottles are still important. The Babies R Us on Bryant Irvin in Fort Worth is the one we took our bottles to. Good luck!

This is true to an extent... my boss and his wife recently had twins. They bought nothing but Avent. She took what she had back and they gave $80 back INSTEAD of free bottles. I believe he also said Target is doing the same. It would hurt to look into this.

I haven't heard anything about the BPA controversy. My grandson uses the Avent bottles. Can you tell me more about it?
