Love mine. Best Christmas present ever. We had ours done at a car detailing place that specializes in installing. Some models are more complicated than others, but still worth it in my opinion.
Looking to purchase & install an automatic car starter in my '08 Highlander. Don't know if anyone has any good/bad experience with doing this. And is purchasing at a store and then having a "personal" mechanic install it better than say having like Sears or Best Buy do it all for you? Thanks for any input!!

The place that we bought ours at actually installed it as well (for both of our vehicles actually). That was in WI though and I can't remember the name of the place. But it was a smaller, local, business. We had problems once and they fixed it free of charge! I would say try to find a place like that. Search for a local store that sells car radios/speakers, alarm systems, ect and they will likely have the car starters too. Good luck!
I haven't done this yet, but inquired into it. Sears or Best Buy indicated to me that they do not do that, that you have to go to the dealership. Which is costly (my opinion) which is why we put it off. In the meantime we are walking around with one. Yikes. I live on the edge.
Most businesses that install alarms also sell and install remote starters. Just make sure they guarantee their work. I would not have a dealer put one in. We had one installed by the dealer when we got our van and we had to remove the cover from the dashboard because first the remotes would not work, then the button for the alarm broke, then last month it drained my battery. I don't know pricing in your area but around Chicago just a remote start is only about $135, installed.
I let a dealer add on cruise control after I bought a brand new car and even a 2nd dealer could not figure out how to get it to work right.
I would go somewhere they do a bunch of them so it works right and somewhere you have service should it need fixed.
I've done this on 2 cars & it's great. However, find out the range. I have one car I can start from almost anywhere & the other I have to be almost on top of lol.
