I've never done it myself but have heard many people say it's not a good diet for women. My mil tried it before and she had awful headaches with it. When she went back to eating normal the headaches stopped. Good luck.
Has anyone had good luck doing this diet? I've done WW in the past with success but was considering something new! Comments?

Atkins is not a healthy option for your entire body. Oh, sure, you can lose weight, but your brain needs carbs. GOOD carbs. Many physcians will attest to this. While it's true many physicians have also done Atkins...everyone loves a quick fix...if they are honest they will tell you it is not what your body needs in the long term. And, do you really believe a diet is good for you if you need to monitor your liver enzyme levels? Not to mention Dr. Atkins died and so did much of the hype when he died. If you're looking for 'something new' to wrap yourself around South Beach is a much more balanced and healthy approach to lose weight for your entire body. Sugar Busters is another good alternative. It's a diet developed by about 4 physicians in the New Orleans/ Baton Rouge area for their diabetic and cardiac patients. It developed 'accidentally' over time in conjunction with registered dieticians. In that region you will find restaurants with Sugar Buster menu offerings. My brother did the SB diet and was successful with it, but eventually 'fell off the SB wagon' and joined WW...so far WW has been the life change needed...at least for him. Good luck!

It seems that any sort of diet restricts something that our bodies need, therefore they are not healthy for us.
Simply put, you can eat whatever you want, just use portion control. For example: if you want a cookie, then have one not two; if you drink soda, only have one a week. You also need to be smart about what you eat. Drinking a lot of water is also essential. And last but not least, you need to exercise.
I am a single mom of three boys (16,21,24), am 46 yo, am 5'6, and I weigh 145 pounds. Yet, I wear a size 6 or 8 (depending on the designer). I am a personal trainer and work with people daily who want to lose weight and get into shape. I also take Juice Plus which provides whole food based nutrition from 17 different fruits, vegetables, and grains. It comes in capsules or chewable forms. The great thing is that kids can get the gummies or chewables free! You can read about it and/or order it if you like at my website:

I hope this helps.

I've done atkins several different times with great success, it's the best diet I've ever done, and I've done them all- I love being able to eat foods that are filling and satisfying- I have not continued the Atkins lifetime maintenance however, I have used this method to loose weight in a timely manner- I love to eat, so when I'm not on the diet I do slowly gain weight, but if I'd eat more healthy on a regular basis I know I'd be able to keep the weight off- I will never do another diet for weight loss- I love Atkins, and my husband does as well! I recommend monitoring your urine with Keto-strips, I buy the generic at Walgreens- it helps to know that you are in the "zone"- check out atkins.com for more info!

PS my cholesterol dropped significantly from doing the Atkins diet, don't have it checked during induction phase however because your lipid levels will be temporarily elevated-
Have a great day! And good luck!

I've done both diets. Although Atkins works very well, I wouldn't recommend it. It's not a way of life. I feel like WW is more a normal way of eating and something that's easy to continue. However, with Atkins are you truely going to want to live without carbs for the rest of your life?
I would strongly recommend sticking to the WW as it's more a normal life.

Does it work, yes it works. However the real question is will YOU be able to do this for a lifetime?
It really is about changing your eating habits and change of lifestyle. I think there are other programs that are more realistic in keeping for a longer period of time/lifetime.
It's about balance when making food choices. It's not about depriving yourself of one type of food.
I know my turning point was I was tired of trying to find clothes that hid this or that part of my body.
I eat a balanced diet that always contains fruit/veggies, lean protein, grains and healthy fats. I limit the processed foods and fats and of course PORTION control =) If I'm not full I have seconds on veggies. I get at least 45 mins of exercise a day. I count cleaning my house and yard work part of that too. Even playing soccer with my son all counts towards my exercise.
I lost 15 pounds in 2 months just by doing this and the best part is I'm able to keep this lifestyle change.
Best of Luck!
I've heard mixed results on Atkins because it's so strict. I've had 4 family members lose 30 lbs. on South Beach, which is similar to Atkins but more feasible to keep on it for the long term. South Beach has 1 2-week phase 1 where you don't do bread or fruit. Then you can add in most fruits and non-white breads for phase 2, which you stay on until you reach your goal weight. So you might want to do internet searches for that to see if that would fit your lifestyle better.
Good luck!

Honestly for me diet plans have never really worked out. I have to discipline myself to eat healthy and work out. If I have something I have to follow then I usually stray from it. When I need to lose weight I won't drink anything but water, I won't eat out a lot, won't eat anything fried and eat a lot of fruit. That is what works for me. I know most people aren't like that and they need something to follow but I am the opposite. I have had several friends that have used LA Weightloss and had done really well with it. Good luck with finding something that works for you!!
I tried this for 2 weeks and lost 15lbs from it but I was STRAVING all the time. I have also heard lately that low carb diets promote the growth of some cancers, not sure how much truth there is to it, but have heard it alot. It really is hard to stick with, and a pain in the but to watch your kids/family/friends eat just simple bread, or hamburger helper and not be able to have any.
If your looking for a quick weight loss plan and starving while getting there, Atkins works. But when you go off the diet all the weight and then some comes back. It's not healthy at all. South Beach is a little better, plus they have a product line in the stores.
It must be a life change, or it will not work long term for you. I had to face facts myself about a month ago. I found a book from "alli" at wal-mart pharmacy. The book is called "are you losing it? losing weight without losing your mind." I started reading this book in the April. I have started to walk 3 miles five days a week. My oldest kids are in summer school so I drop them off, and take my little two with me. It gets everyone out of the house for awhile. It takes me about an hour to walk it. I feel so much better. I have lost about 20 pounds since I have started. I would like to lose another 70 pounds. I am carrying around a lot of my baby weight. With my family history on when we get older I figured I need to do something now. My mom did the Atkins diet about 10 years ago. She lost 150 pounds or a little more. The sad thing is that she gained it all back and then some. Good Luck. I am just talking what works for me. That's why it's a life change.
This is not healthy. Look into the South Beach!!!
Hi L.,
In my opinion you are better off to do it the natural way, such as by eating a helthy diet and exercise.
Exercise doesn't have to be running on a treadmill, or going on a 5 mile jog every morning. It could be just cleaning the house, running laundry up and down steps if you have them, chasing around a toddler all day, lol. Anything as long as you're not sitting on the couch doing nothing but also taking a break when needed.
I think one of the biggest things to losing weight is not just exercise but portion control. I think you should allow yourself the piece of bithday cake, wedding cake, or a beer on a friday night out with friends whatever the case but it's all about portion control and size.
I hope this helps you in some way, W.
