Hi J., I have tried the mystery shopper thing and it does work , but I am from monroe and ther was not to many jobs avaiable to me they are in Ann arbor, Taylor, ohio. Some of the "get paid to take surveys" sites really do pay, but they don't pay very much. www.mysurvey.com and www.your2cents.com are good sites that pay for your opinions but it's only like 50 bucks a year or so. Becoming a mystery shopper does pay pretty well but only when you get assignments and most of the companies make you pay to get the lists to get started.

Hi. I just wanted to say that most of the online mystery shopper ads I've seen require you to pay for or order something. From what I've seen it's a scam. Just watch what you sign up for, you shouldn't have to pay to work. Good Luck!

I had a dilemma also. My son is Autistic. I did daycare in my home for a few years, until I got REALLY tired of not getting paid, moms who would sign up for daycare, then never bring their kids, but expect me to hold a spot...the list is endless....

SO. No more daycare.

Luckily for me, I have always enjoyed playing with glass. Mosaics, stained glass, fused glass. I'm selling my creations and making more money now than I did doing daycare. And I'm home when my son is. Which is nice.

I did mystery shopping awhile back ago and it's definitely not something you get rich at. The majority of what I did was restaurants and they basically just reimbursed me for a portion or all of the meal. All of them required it to be only adults, so with the added expense of a babysitter it cost me money, but it was nice to get out to dinner with my husband once in awhile.

Don't bother with the things you mentioned. they're pretty much a waste of time. If you have a degree, or are a good writer/reader....contact some local small publishing companies, and try to do some freelance edit jobs. They usually pay by the hour and can be done at your convenience on the pc at home!

I do several odd jobs in order to stay home with my children...

I work approx. one night a week overnight at Kohls. I have a great family who helps me out and even when they can't I can function for short periods of time without a ton of sleep, so it works out. I've worked third shift for years now and up until Dec I was working 30 to 40 hours a week on third shift. If you can do it, it is a great way to be home during the day and not have to pay for daycare.

Back in Sept I started mopping floors and cleaning windows at a laundry mat near my home. This job allows me to go in at 5 in the morning and be home before my husband is off to work.

Then about a month and a half ago I started watching a little girl 40 hours a week Mon-Fri. My children get a playmate and I make some extra cash :)

Last but not least I sell Premier Designs Jewelry. I am an independant consultant and I hold Home Shows in my Hostess' homes. Their is an inital investment and you really only get out of it what you put into it, but it's fun and I get adult conversation and contact which is nice.

I have tried the on-line surveys, but never made any money. I also tried mystery shopping several years ago and it was more of hassle than anything and I never made any money from that either.

I guess my best advice is to be creative and flexible and take work where you find it. If you come across something that seems to good to be true it probably is and stay away from any work at home advertisement that requires you to pay before you can work. You can also check companies out on the Better Business Bureau website http://search.bbb.org/

From my personal experience; I only know one mom who stays home full time and they are only able to do that because they don't go out, they don't drive newer vehicles and they sacrafice alot of things that many of us aren't willing to give up.

All the other Moms I know have part time jobs, several work third shift and I have many friends who run in home day cares. If these options don't work for you maybe you could look at cutting out some extras and trimming down your budget? I don't know, I don't know your situation or your budget, but I know we had to do that when I gave up working full time.

Some tips we've used...we get only the basic...and I mean basic...cable channels (3,4,8,17 etc.) but we get high speed internet. Those combined run us usually $30-$50 dollars a month. It varies every few months because my husband always calls the cable company and gets the latest special that their offering...it takes a little bit of effort on our part, but it keeps our cable/internet bill pretty low. Another thing I do is look for the best deal at the grocery store I break the price down per piece or pound or whatever it is weighed by and try to find the best deal. I also shop sales for the majority of our grocerys...my sister went shopping with me last weekend and couldn't believe that I didn't buy anything that I didn't absolutely have to have if it wasn't on sale...it's just something we know we have to do if I don't want to go back to work full time.

I was a mystery shopper in College for resturants and it was great fun than because they paid for our meal up front. We basically worked for food. However times have changed and you now have to purchase the product or meal up front and fill out their paperwork before you get paid. I am not saying this is a scam but I think it is kind of time consumming. I have sense joined a few direct marketing companies that were not really worth the money however I just joined Mary Kay and I love it. I started babysitting in my home about 4 months after my son was born and a little over a year and a half later I have a small licensed daycare in my home.

Hello I found that I spent more time doing surveys than what it was worth and usually I ended up spending money to buy products that I did not want. Sorry, it just did not work for me. I did find that being a freelance writer and making crafts from my home paid and I could do that without too much of a start up expense.
